Use Rock-type attacks against Dynamax Moltres. Because Moltres is Fire/Flying, Rock is its double weakness; Water and Electric are also super effective, but less so. Pokémon GO Hub’s Max-phase ranking places Dynamax Rhyperior with Smack Down and Max Rockfall first, followed by Dynamax Gigalith with the same attack pairing. Bring three eligible Max Pokémon, include at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, and use a durable teammate to help your damage dealer survive and build the Max meter.
What is Dynamax Moltres weak to?
Dynamax Moltres is a Fire/Flying Pokémon. Pokémon GO Hub’s type chart lists Rock damage effectiveness at 256.0%, compared with 160.0% for both Water and Electric. Those are reference-chart values, not measurements from a battle. Rock is the strongest matchup because it hits both of Moltres’s types super effectively. Bug and Grass are heavily resisted, at 39.1% effectiveness each. Pokémon GO Hub’s Dynamax Moltres reference also lists a level-50 maximum CP of 3,917, with base Attack 251, Defense 181, and Stamina 207.

Best Dynamax Moltres counters
The following options come from Pokémon GO Hub’s Max-phase counter ranking, accessed October 8, 2026. It ranks damage output during the Max phase using Level 3 Max or Gigantamax Move stats, ideal no-lag conditions, and three consecutive Max attacks. Its model starts with a tank or defender, then switches to an attacker for the Max phase, so the table is not a guarantee of an overall battle result.
| Rank | Pokémon | Fast Attack | Max Attack |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dynamax Rhyperior | Smack Down | Max Rockfall |
| 2 | Dynamax Gigalith | Smack Down | Max Rockfall |
| 3 | Gigantamax Inteleon | Water Gun | G-Max Hydrosnipe |
| 4 | Dynamax Omastar | Rock Throw | Max Rockfall |
| 5 | Gigantamax Kingler | Bubble | G-Max Foam Burst |
| 6 | Dynamax Regirock | Rock Throw | Max Rockfall |
| 7 | Gigantamax Toxtricity | Acid | G-Max Stun Shock |
In that model, Rhyperior’s listed Max Move damage is 747.60 and Gigalith’s is 703.85. These are simulated Max-phase values under the ranking’s assumptions, not expected damage totals for every player. The ranking depends on the eligible roster and move availability and can change as those change. See Pokémon GO Hub’s counter ranking and methodology for its current details.

How to build a team for the battle
Each Trainer selects three Pokémon, and at least one must be a Max Pokémon. Only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon can enter a Max Battle; up to four Trainers can join. Max Battles take place at Power Spots and require Max Particles to enter, with the cost depending on the boss’s strength. The official Max Battles and catching Max Pokémon help page explains the entry requirements and battle rules.
Assign each Pokémon a job
- Durable opener: Start with a Pokémon that can take hits while helping charge the Max meter. A defender’s usefulness is not captured by a ranking that measures only Max-phase damage.
- Rock attacker: Switch to your strongest available Rock Max attacker for the Max phase. Rhyperior and Gigalith lead the cited damage ranking; Omastar and Regirock are alternatives listed there.
- Backup: Use the third slot for another eligible Pokémon that can survive or deal super-effective Water, Electric, or Rock damage, depending on what you have available.
The official Max Pokémon mechanics guide explains Max Moves and their upgrades. For Dynamax Pokémon, the Max Move’s type is based on the Pokémon’s Fast Attack type; Gigantamax Pokémon can have a species-specific G-Max move. Check that your chosen Fast Attack and Max Move suit the role you intend.

Battle tips: charge, defend, and heal
- Build the Max meter with Fast Attacks. Keep attacking, and swipe toward battlefield energy as it appears to fill the meter faster. The official battle guide says the transformation lasts three turns once the meter fills.
- Use your Max phase for focused damage. Bring in the Rock attacker when you can make the most of its Max Rockfall or other super-effective Max attack. For a Gigantamax Pokémon, use its listed G-Max move.
- Use support moves when survival matters. Max Guard reduces damage from the boss; Max Spirit heals the user and allies. Leveling these moves can improve their support value.
- Consider a Max Mushroom for a difficult attempt. It increases damage during Max Battles for 30 minutes. Multiple mushrooms can stack the duration, and special events may extend it.
For the detailed rules on Fast Attacks, battlefield energy, Max Moves, and items, consult the official Max Battles help page.
Is Dynamax Moltres available now?
Availability depends on the current rotation. Niantic’s launch announcement scheduled Dynamax Moltres’s debut for February 3, 2025, during a Max Battle week running through February 9; that historical event notice does not establish that Moltres is in rotation today. Check the in-game Power Spots or a current official event announcement for active dates. Niantic’s Legendary Flight event announcement records the original schedule.

Is Moltres worth building for Max Battles?
That depends on the role you need. Pokémon GO Hub’s October 1, 2026 assessment describes Dynamax Moltres as a niche investment: it led that date’s Flying Max Attack damage ranking and could serve as a tank against Bug and Grass, but it lacks a 0.5-second Fast Attack that would charge the Max meter especially quickly. The article identifies Gigantamax Cinderace as a stronger choice for some Fire-damage jobs. These are dated, roster-dependent comparisons rather than permanent rankings.
