Electronic Arts said at its September 17, 2024 Investor Day that it aims to grow its global audience to well over 1 billion people over five years. This is a management ambition, not a reported result or a forecast with a disclosed starting count. EA has not published a precise definition or comparable baseline for that target.
How EA plans to grow its audience
EA framed the ambition around three strategic pillars: building engagement in large online communities, creating blockbuster interactive storytelling, and using community to accelerate growth in, around, and beyond its games. The company presented these as a portfolio-wide strategy in its September 17, 2024 Investor Day announcement.
Build and sustain online communities
EA’s first pillar centers on engaging the communities around its games. The idea is to sustain participation in major franchises and connect players through ongoing online experiences, rather than treating each game as a one-time purchase.
Expand interactive storytelling
The second pillar is to create blockbuster interactive storytelling. EA tied this to investment in its intellectual property, including plans for a new Battlefield experience and continued investment in The Sims.

Grow through community beyond the games
The third pillar extends engagement into activity around and beyond games. EA highlighted an EA SPORTS App concept featuring sports content, live data, interactivity, and gaming centered on global football. It also described AI as a potential source of efficiency, expansion, and transformation.
EA separately said it expected to more than double The Sims’ annual net bookings over five years. That is a financial goal for one franchise, distinct from the company-wide audience ambition. EA also said it expected sustained growth for EA SPORTS and aspired to make it the most valuable sports business. These are management goals, not evidence that the audience target has been reached.

What “over 1 billion” does—and does not—tell us
EA’s 2024 announcement did not provide a precise definition of “global audience,” a starting figure, or interim milestones. It therefore does not establish whether the target counts unique people, accounts, players over a particular period, or another measure. Nor does it give readers enough information to calculate a growth rate or track progress against a comparable baseline.
EA cautioned that forward-looking statements are not guarantees of future performance and that actual results could differ materially. The billion-plus figure should be read as an ambition, not a promised outcome.

How EA’s 2026 player figure compares
In a June 15, 2026 announcement, EA said its games and services across console, mobile, and PC reached more than 120 million players each month during fiscal year 2026. EA described this as a reasonable estimate based on internal company data and third-party information, including platform-provider network logins, with reasonable efforts to remove duplicate accounts. The company also said actions may affect comparability over time.
That monthly-player figure provides recent company context, but it cannot be used as the baseline for the 2024 ambition: EA has not established that the two figures use the same definition, scope, or time period. The distinction matters because an audience measure and a monthly active-player estimate are not automatically interchangeable.

EA’s June 15, 2026 EA Advertising announcement also gives franchise-specific engagement figures. They use different units and time windows, so none is a substitute for a company-wide count of people:

These are figures EA published, not independently validated statistics. A match, an NFL-season equivalent, a challenge, and a player are different units; their totals cannot be added together or treated as counts of unique audience members.

How brand partnerships fit the strategy
EA Advertising, announced in June 2026, is a platform for brand activations across EA’s game portfolio. EA says it works directly with brands and agencies on custom integrations such as in-game challenges, rewards, branded content, dynamic ad units, and live experiences. The company describes its EA SPORTS Partner Program as a premium ecosystem for a select group of official partners; the announcement names Visa, Lowe’s, Red Bull, Xfinity, Peacock, and Mountain Dew as participating brands or activations.
This offers one example of how EA is seeking to build commercial activity around engagement, not just within games. The announcement does not explain how independent publishers, creators, or small businesses can qualify or apply, and it does not establish an affiliate program for them.
Has EA reached its billion-person goal?
The available EA announcements do not report that it has reached the goal or provide a progress update measured on a definition comparable to the 2024 target. EA’s 2026 monthly-player estimate is not enough to answer the question because the company has not shown that it measures the same audience over the same period.
EA’s official newsroom lists the completion of its acquisition by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners on August 4, 2026. The listing does not connect that transaction to a revised audience goal or measurable progress toward it. EA’s newsroom is the company’s source for that corporate announcement.
