If the EA app is not opening, stuck offline, refusing to download a game, or showing an error code, start by checking EA’s Server Status page. An outage cannot be fixed by reinstalling the app or clearing its cache. If EA’s services are working, use the fixes below in order, starting with the least disruptive.
First, confirm your computer is supported
The EA app supports 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 and macOS 10.15.8 or later. It does not support Linux, ChromeOS, or other operating systems. Check EA’s download requirements and update your operating system before troubleshooting further.

1. Check EA’s servers before changing anything
Open the EA Server Status page. It can show separate statuses for the EA app, EA Play, individual games, and connected services such as Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.

2. Restart or reload the EA app
If the app opens but is frozen or displaying stale information:
- Select the three-horizontal-lines menu in the top-left corner.
- Select Restart app.
To reload only the current screen, open the same menu and choose View > Reload page. To refresh your account session, choose Sign out, then sign in again.
3. Clear the EA app cache
EA recommends clearing its cache for offline-mode problems, failed self-updates, downloads stuck at a percentage or at “Waiting for download”, and games missing from the Library. It does not fix server outages.

- Windows: open the three-line menu, scroll to Help, select App recovery, then select Clear cache.
- macOS: use the macOS menu bar and select Help > App Recovery > Clear cache.
When the app will not open on Windows
- Open Start > All Apps.
- Expand the EA folder.
- Select App Recovery.
- Select Clear Cache in the confirmation window.
On macOS, clearing the cache may request permission for EALaunchHelper. Use the password you use to log in to the Mac, not your EA Account password. See EA’s current cache-clearing instructions.
4. Repair a game that will not launch
If the EA app works but one game crashes, freezes, or refuses to start:

- Open Library.
- Find the game and select its Manage icon.
- Select Repair.
EA’s newer instructions use Manage > Repair. Older guides may say that Repair is under a three-dot menu, so their directions may not match the current interface. More launch and crash troubleshooting is available in EA’s current guide.
5. Run the app as administrator on Windows
Administrator access can help with installation, update, permission, and game-folder errors.

- Close the EA app.
- Right-click its shortcut or executable.
- Select Run as administrator.
For a Create Folder Error, right-click the affected game folder in File Explorer, open Properties > Security > Advanced, and confirm that the SYSTEM account has Full control. If needed, edit its permissions, enable Full control under Allow, and select Apply. Re-enable User Account Control if you disabled it during troubleshooting.
6. Temporarily remove connection and overlay conflicts
Antivirus and firewall software, VPNs, proxy tools, IP-masking software, peer-to-peer applications, download managers, and visual overlays can interfere with launching, downloading, and connecting. EA does not support proxy servers, and running several overlay programs simultaneously can cause conflicts.
Close these applications temporarily, then test the EA app. If your security software allows exceptions, EA lists these Windows executables:

EC:10701 concerns communication on port 3216, which the EA app uses to launch. Restart the computer first. If the error remains on Windows:
- Search for and open Control Panel.
- Go to Network & Internet.
- Select Show available networks.
- Disable virtual network adapters such as Hyper-V, TAP-Windows, or VMware.
- Disconnect or disable your VPN.
- Restart the EA app and try again.
On macOS, disable VPN connections and virtual adapters under System Settings > Network. To check whether another process is listening on port 3216, open Terminal and run:
sudo lsof -i -P | grep LISTEN | grep :3216Enter your Mac login password if prompted. EA’s error-code guide contains the platform-specific procedure.
8. Fix installation error codes

INST-14-12002 or INST-14-12029 |
Restart the computer, verify a stable connection, download a fresh installer, and try again later if necessary. |

Restart, verify the connection, download a new installer from EA.com, and retry. |

Approve the installer’s permission prompt. If it remains stuck, restart and reinstall from a fresh download. |

On Windows, check ownership of C:ProgramDataPackage Cache under Properties > Security > Advanced; the owner should be Administrators. On Mac, check System Settings > Privacy & Security and select Open Anyway if macOS blocked the installer. |
9. Fix account and authentication errors
- EC:10000: check your connection and login details. Use EA’s account-recovery process if you cannot access the account email or password.
- EC:10500: this may indicate an EA service problem. Clear the cache, check server status, and try again later.
- Account-linking message: if you see “Something went wrong. To continue linking your EA Account, head back and start over,” reset your EA Account password and retry the linking process.
10. Repair network and DNS problems
- Check EA Server Status.
- Close downloads and background applications.
- Restart the router: turn it off, unplug it, wait about one minute, plug it back in, and restart it.
- Disconnect VPNs and disable proxy or IP-masking software.
- If your ISP’s DNS is unreliable, try another DNS provider.

11. Install missing DirectX or Visual C++ components
DirectX
Install pending Windows updates, then download and run Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Installer. Restart the EA app afterward. EA says this installer supplies missing libraries used by the app.
Visual C++ and DLL errors
For errors mentioning files such as msvcp100.dll, use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ downloads rather than downloading individual DLL files from unofficial sites. EA associates common files with these generations:

If a game includes both versions of vcredist.exe, run both the x86 and x64 installers. EA’s Visual C++ and DLL guide lists additional mappings.
12. Check the drive if a download stops at 4 GB
A download that stops at exactly 4 GB may be targeting a drive formatted as FAT32. FAT32 cannot store individual files larger than 4 GB. Check the destination drive’s file-system format and use a file system that supports larger files if the drive is appropriate for conversion or replacement.

13. Fix Mac permissions and external-drive issues
Give the EA app Full Disk Access
- Open the Apple menu.
- Select System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
- Turn on EA app.
On macOS Catalina, EA says EABackgroundService may also need Full Disk Access.

Check an external drive
macOS may not be able to write to an NTFS-formatted external drive. In Finder, right-click the drive, select Get Info, and check its format and write access.
14. Reinstall the EA app
Reinstalling is appropriate when the app files are corrupted or missing, including EC:109.
Windows
- Close the EA app.
- Open Control Panel.
- Under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
- Select EA app > Uninstall.
- Download and install a fresh copy from EA.com.
macOS
- Close the EA app.
- Open Finder > Applications.
- Drag EA app to the Bin and empty it.
- Download and install the app again.
Do not assume that random folders under AppData are the official cache-reset method; use EA’s App Recovery route first. The supported installation and platform guidance is available from EA’s platform support pages.
15. Submit an EA Error Reporter report
If the problem persists, submit diagnostic information rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
From inside the app
- Open the three-line menu.
- Hover over Help.
- Select EA Error Reporter.
- Choose the problem type and describe it in Description of problem.
- Add a support case number if you have one.
- Select the diagnostic-consent checkbox and choose Submit report.
- Record the resulting Report ID.
When the Windows app will not open
Search Start for EA Error Reporter, or open:
C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsEA DesktopEA DesktopRun ErrorReporter. EA also stores logs at:
%localappdata%Electronic ArtsEA DesktopLogsAttach those logs to an EA support case if requested. See EA’s Error Reporter instructions.
Quick diagnosis
- Everything is offline or inaccessible: check EA Server Status, then clear the cache.
- The app opens but one game fails: use Library > Manage > Repair.
- Downloads stop at “Waiting for download”: clear the cache and check security software, VPNs, permissions, and available storage.
- The download stops at 4 GB: check for FAT32.
- EC:10701: disable VPNs and virtual network adapters, then check port 3216.
- Installation fails repeatedly: use a fresh installer and follow the matching error-code fix.
- macOS cannot install or write to a drive: check Full Disk Access and the external drive’s format.
One important correction about Origin
Origin is no longer the supported Windows launcher. EA’s current Windows launcher is the EA app. If an old guide tells you to troubleshoot Origin on Windows, use EA’s current app instructions instead.
