The announcement is historical, not a new 2026 release. EA also announced Steam Workshop map support for a broader set of C&C games, but that is separate from the source-code releases.
Which Command & Conquer games received source code?
EA’s February 27, 2025 announcement covers these four release groupings. It links a separate GitHub repository for each through its C&C Steam Workshop Support & Source Code announcement.
- Command & Conquer (also known as Tiberian Dawn): recovered game source.
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert: recovered game source.
- Command & Conquer: Renegade: recovered game source.
- Command & Conquer: Generals with Zero Hour: the release covers the base game and its expansion.
EA’s announcement says the code is released under “the GPL” but does not name a version. Check the license file in the relevant repository before relying on a specific GPL version or its terms. EA’s GitHub organization lists the public repositories; repository status and contents may change.
Why did EA call these “four more”?
The wording distinguishes this release from an earlier source-code release: the DLL files for Command & Conquer Remastered Collection. The Remastered Collection was not one of the four newly announced recovered-source releases in February 2025. The Verge’s February 28, 2025 report also distinguishes the earlier DLL release from this announcement.

According to EA, community modder and CnCNet administrator Luke “CCHyper” Feenan worked with the company after receiving access to its C&C Archive. Feenan said the Perforce source archives were restored to buildable states. EA presented the work as community-driven support for modding, preservation, continued support, and keeping the games playable. That description does not establish that every repository will build successfully on every system.
Which games received Steam Workshop map support?
Workshop map support was announced for a wider group of games than the four source releases. EA said it updated the Mission Editor and World Builder tools so creators could publish maps to Steam Workshop for these titles:
Rank #2
- The historic real-time strategy experience that defined the genre for the last 25 years.
- Authentic graphics that remain true to the spirit of C&C but are updated to modern standards.
- Switch in real-time between legacy and 4K remastered graphics when in solo play.
- More than 100 campaign missions and more than 250 multiplayer maps.
- Renegade
- Generals and Zero Hour
- Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath
- Red Alert 3 and Uprising
- Tiberian Twilight
EA described the player flow as subscribing through the Steam client or webpage, then launching the game to download the content. Maps appear in the relevant single-player or multiplayer map selection. The announcement describes the feature, but does not establish the current availability of each Workshop listing or game.
What is the separate C&C Modding Support pack?
EA also linked a “C&C Modding Support” pack on its Electronic Arts GitHub page. It contains source XML, schema, script, shader, and map files for games using EA’s SAGE engine. This is a set of modding support assets, not another one of the four complete game-source releases. The EA GitHub organization lists the pack alongside the game repositories.

What should modders check before publishing a project?
EA directs creators to its Franchise Modding Guidelines. The official FAQ search result says the disclaimer “EA has not endorsed and does not support this product” must appear prominently at the top of a project website and in at least one root-level license file in a source repository. It also says not to use EA artwork, logos, or trademarks to promote a mod. Consult the live guidelines for the current rules and exact requirements.
The source release does not itself establish permission to use game assets outside the released code, EA endorsement of a community mod, or compatibility between a mod and a particular game version. Review the applicable repository license and the current EA guidelines for the project you plan to make or share.
