Augments are passive bonuses in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that let you tailor your character beyond their current vocation. Rank up the vocation that grants an augment, spend Discipline to unlock it, then equip it for another vocation at a Vocation Guild. That makes vocation progression a way to build a set of effects for your preferred playstyle.
How augments work
An augment is a passive effect: once equipped, it modifies your character without requiring you to activate it. Augments cover direct attributes such as strength, health, stamina and defenses, as well as utility such as carrying weight, climbing, party support, item preservation and detecting collectibles.
There are two separate steps: unlocking an augment by ranking up its associated vocation and purchasing it with Discipline, then equipping it for the vocation you want to play. A vocation does not have to be your current choice for its augment to be useful; unlocked augments can be carried over to another vocation.
How to unlock and equip an augment
- Rank up the granting vocation. Each augment is tied to a particular vocation and becomes available at a specified vocation rank.
- Buy the augment with Discipline. Having the required rank unlocks access to the purchase; it does not equip the effect automatically.
- Visit a Vocation Guild. Use its vocation management options to equip the augments you want for your preferred vocation.
- Choose for the task at hand. Build around what you need—damage, stamina efficiency, survivability, party support or exploration—and revisit your selection as your priorities change.
The April 2024 Prima Games reference lists augment unlock ranks of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 for most vocations, with Discipline costs of 300, 900, 1,800, 3,000 and 5,000 respectively. Warfarer has two listed augments, at ranks 6 and 9. These are the values reported by that guide; check the in-game vocation screen for the current cost and availability. Its Radiance entry has a malformed cost, so no cost is given for that augment below.

Augment reference by vocation
The following effects, ranks and costs follow the April 2, 2024 Prima Games augment table. “Rank / Discipline” gives the vocation rank needed and the listed purchase cost. Confirm names and values in-game; the source spells Sorcerer’s Catalysis as “Catlysis,” and reports an unclear cost for Archer’s Radiance.

Which augments should you unlock for your build?
There is no single best set for every character. Pick augments according to the problem you want to solve, and account for the vocation ranks and Discipline needed to obtain them.

- For direct damage: consider strength or magick bonuses such as Verve or Sagacity, or situational damage effects such as Ambuscade and Catalysis.
- For staying power: look at health, defense, knockdown resistance and stamina options, including Vitality, Mettle, Apotropaism, Constancy, Endurance and Exaltation.
- For stamina and mobility: compare effects that improve stamina recovery or reduce its use, alongside movement and climbing benefits such as Avidity, Athleticism and Conveyance.
- For a party-focused setup: Sustainment and Ascendancy improve pawn attributes, while Amelioration helps fallen pawns revive faster.
- For exploration and convenience: Detection can help locate Seeker’s Tokens or Wakestone shards; Thew helps with carrying, and Stasis slows item deterioration.
- For a specific combat role: Provocation draws attention, Subtlety reduces it, and effects such as Dominion or Diligence address particular interactions.
Because augments can be used across vocations once unlocked, you can spend time ranking a vocation for an effect that suits a different one. For context, Capcom Promotion Producer Ken Mendoza described Warfarer as a vocation that lets players “engage in combat while switching between the weapons of other vocations” in a January 31, 2024 PlayStation Blog post; that weapon flexibility is distinct from the separate process of unlocking and equipping augments.
