EA promised more in May; it then unveiled gameplay and modes on May 17 and released the game on July 19, 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What the February 15 teaser actually announced
EA titled its announcement “EA SPORTS College Football 25: Yeah, It’s Really Happening.” The teaser offered what EA called “never-before-seen peeks” and set expectations with the line “Coming this summer. Full reveal in May.” In other words, the video confirmed the game and its planned timing, while leaving detailed gameplay and mode information for a later presentation.
EA’s announcement and the official teaser video are the primary record of what was shown and promised on February 15. The teaser should not be mistaken for the May feature reveal or for a current announcement: both the reveal and the game’s launch took place in 2024.
How the teaser fit the franchise’s return
EA and the Collegiate Licensing Company announced the franchise’s return in 2021. EA described CLC as its licensing partner and said the agreement would make EA the exclusive developer of simulation college-football game experiences. At that stage, EA said athlete names, images, and likenesses would not be included. That was a statement about the project in 2021, not the final 2024 game. EA’s 2021 announcement also said the franchise’s previous run generated tens of millions of unit sales from 2005 through 2014; that is EA’s broad historical claim, not an audited precise total.

Modes for different ways to play
The May reveal made clear that the game extended well beyond the teaser’s brief confirmation. EA highlighted several modes with distinct goals:
- Dynasty: Build and manage a college program as a created coach.
- Road to Glory: Follow a player’s college career.
- Road to the College Football Playoff: Compete online in a path toward the playoff.
- College Football Ultimate Team: Assemble a team and play online.
These descriptions reflect EA’s mode framing in its feature overview and reveal materials.

Features EA said shaped gameplay
EA described CampusIQ features including player Wear & Tear, Pre-Snap Recognition, and Homefield Advantage. It also highlighted a composure system, fluctuating player ratings, team tiers, and passing mechanics. EA said Homefield Advantage could affect play through effects such as screen shake, missing pre-play icons, and moving play art. These are publisher descriptions of the game’s systems, not independent performance assessments.
Teams, athletes, and presentation
At launch, EA said the game covered all 134 FBS universities and more than 150 stadiums, with thousands of current college athletes included through an NIL deal. EA also cited 167 college fight songs and emphasized team-specific presentation and college game-day traditions. These are figures and descriptions reported by EA in its July 2024 launch announcement.

What EA’s player figures mean
EA reported 2.2 million unique players during Early Access and an additional 600,000 through the EA Play trial. Those are separate player counts reported by the publisher, not total sales figures. The launch announcement does not make those numbers a measure of copies sold.
The return also marked a change from the 2021 licensing announcement: EA said that thousands of current college football athletes were playable in the 2024 game through an NIL deal. EA’s May 2024 cover announcement named Edwards, Ewers, and Hunter as active college players at the time.

What the teaser cannot tell you
The February teaser was a confirmation and preview, not evidence for a review judgment about gameplay quality. It also did not provide enough information to compare editions, current prices, stock, or retailer offers. The reliably established platform information from EA’s 2024 reveal and launch announcements is PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; current availability and terms can vary by seller and date.
