If EA SPORTS FC 26 lags online on PS5, first check the match’s connection indicators and EA’s server status before changing router settings. High ping, packet loss, or jitter can point to connection trouble, but the cause may be your home Wi-Fi, your internet route, or the EA game data center—so there is no single fix that applies to every player.
Why is FC 26 lagging online on PS5?
Online match data makes a round trip between your home network and an FC game data center. Delays or interruptions anywhere along that route can cause lag, visual stuttering, or disconnections. EA describes the path as involving your home network, your internet connection and ISP route, and the game data center; only the first part is fully under your control. EA’s Connection Quality explanation defines ping as the time game data takes to travel from your console or PC to the FC data centers and back.
That means the symptom alone does not identify the cause. A wireless problem inside your home is one possibility, but a busy shared connection, an ISP routing issue, or an EA service problem can produce similar effects.
How to check FC 26 connection indicators on PS5
Use the in-game monitoring before changing your setup. Connection Monitoring is enabled automatically, and the settings let you choose which information appears in applicable matches.

- From the main menu, open Customise > Settings > Game Settings > Visual > Connection Monitoring.
- Choose ping, connection indicators, both, or off.
- During a match, note whether the ping, packet-loss, or jitter indicators appear, and whether they are orange or red.
Orange indicates a possible impact on gameplay; red indicates a more significant impact. If the icons remain visible throughout a match, EA says that can indicate an unstable connection. These indicators help describe connection quality, but do not by themselves prove whether the issue is your Wi-Fi, ISP, or EA’s data-center path. Check for an EA service issue first
If online modes suddenly stop connecting or several matches are affected at once, check the FC server-status page and EA’s official FC channels before troubleshooting your router. Service status changes over time, so a status observed earlier may not describe the situation now. Try these low-risk fixes in order
Restart FC and your network equipment
- Close FC 26 completely, then launch it again and test another match.
- Restart your router. If your modem is a separate device, restart that too. Wait at least 30 seconds before powering the equipment back on.
Allow the equipment to reconnect before testing. This is a reversible first step, not a guarantee that a persistent route or service issue will clear.
Pause heavy shared-network activity
During a match, pause large downloads and HD or 4K streaming on the network where practical. Other devices using substantial bandwidth can add competition for a shared connection. EA includes stopping downloads and streaming among its connection troubleshooting steps.

Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi
If possible, connect the PS5 to the router with Ethernet and compare the match experience. EA says, “An ethernet cable usually ensures a more stable connection.” A wired test helps determine whether Wi-Fi is contributing; it cannot rule out problems farther along the internet route. If a cable is impractical, its required length depends on the distance between the PS5 and router.
Wi-Fi on PS5: choose the band and placement deliberately
If the console must use Wi-Fi and your router supports both bands, compare them from the PS5’s normal network setup. The best choice depends on distance and interference rather than a universal rule.

For 5 GHz, place the router with its shorter range in mind. In a crowded wireless environment, overlapping 2.4 GHz channels may also contribute to slower speeds or instability. EA identifies channels 1, 6, and 11 as non-overlapping options on 2.4 GHz and suggests trying channels to find what works best. If FC’s connection quality is often rated Okay or Poor after the basic comparisons, EA suggests a few further checks. Router changes vary by model, so follow the router manufacturer’s guidance and avoid changing settings you cannot restore.

- Check router firmware: Look for updates using the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Test without a VPN: Disconnect it temporarily and see whether match quality changes.
- Consider QoS: If your router offers Quality of Service, it may let you prioritize FC traffic. The setting and available controls depend on the router.
If the connection remains poor, contact EA support through the FC 26 support hub. Include whether you tested Ethernet or Wi-Fi and what the in-game indicators showed; those observations help describe the problem without assuming its cause.
