EA SPORTS WRC is a strong choice if you want demanding rally driving, varied routes, and a substantial mix of modern and historic cars. Reviews praise its handling, content, and challenge, but also note flaws and performance concerns. The verdict depends partly on your platform and tolerance for rough edges; Steam’s player rating is mixed rather than overwhelmingly positive.
What reviews say about EA SPORTS WRC
Critics generally highlight the driving model, rally routes, and breadth of content, while also acknowledging flaws. That makes the reception more nuanced than a simple recommendation or rejection. Reviewers’ assessments vary by outlet and platform, so a review of one version should not be treated as a definitive account of performance on every system. Metacritic’s critic-review listings collect reviews and excerpts across platforms.

For PS5 specifically, one critic-review excerpt describes the game as enjoyable with both a controller and a steering wheel. That is an individual reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee that every setup will feel the same. Metacritic’s PS5 review listings provide platform-specific context.

What you get in the game
EA SPORTS WRC launched in 2023 as Codemasters’ official FIA World Rally Championship game. EA describes a multi-surface handling model that can be tailored to skill level. The US PlayStation Store listing names career, championship, time trial, cross-platform multiplayer, Regularity Rally, and a livery editor. It also describes WRC, WRC2, and Junior WRC cars alongside historic vehicles. Feature availability and details can vary by platform or update; consult the listing for the edition you plan to play. EA’s game page lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox options, while the US PlayStation Store listing identifies a PS5 Standard Edition.
Platforms and edition availability
EA lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions. The official US PlayStation Store catalogue lists the PS5 Standard Edition; that regional listing does not establish pricing or availability in other regions. Check your local store for the edition currently offered and its included content.

A controller is a reasonable way to play; the PS5 review evidence includes a critic who enjoyed the game with one. A compatible wheel and pedals are optional for players seeking a more involved driving setup, not a requirement. Compatibility depends on the specific wheel, platform, and game configuration. TechRadar’s Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel review reports testing that wheel with EA SPORTS WRC and notes that compatibility is not universal. Check the wheel maker’s compatibility information for your exact setup before buying.
Is new content still being released?
EA said the 2024 season, including the Hard Chargers Content pack, would be the game’s final expansion. That announcement concerns planned expansions; it does not by itself establish that all maintenance or patching ended. EA’s game hub lists a version 2.3.1 patch dated March 21, 2025, but the available information does not promise further patches or ongoing support. EA’s development update explains the expansion announcement.
Quick Recap
Who should play EA SPORTS WRC?
- Good fit: Players who value challenging rally driving, varied surfaces, and a broad selection of rally content.
- Think twice: Players who prioritize consistently polished performance; reviews raise concerns, and platform-specific experience varies.
- Setup: You can start with a controller. Consider a wheel only if you want that style of driving and have confirmed compatibility.
