EBOLA VILLAGE has the ingredients that invite a Resident Evil comparison: a biological-threat mystery, a remote village, exploration, and puzzles. But “Resident Evil clone” is a reviewer’s shorthand, not the game’s official label. Steam describes it as a modern first-person adventure inspired by 1990s survival games. Player opinions suggest its atmosphere and puzzle appeal may be offset by rough pacing and execution, so the case for “better than you’d think” depends on which parts of survival horror matter most to you.

What is EBOLA VILLAGE?

EBOLA VILLAGE is a single-player, first-person survival-horror adventure set in a USSR village. Its protagonist, Maria, is at home watching a favorite series when a broadcast about a biological threat interrupts the evening. She heads to the village to visit her mother and ex-husband, Ruslan, then tries to uncover what happened and who is involved. Steam says the game was developed in conjunction with the EBOLA VILLAGE short film. Steam’s store listing frames it as a modern first-person adventure inspired by classic survival games of the 1990s.

Is it really a Resident Evil clone?

Not by its official description: Steam does not call it a Resident Evil clone. That comparison comes from player and video-review framing. It is best understood as a genre comparison, not a claim that the game copies Capcom’s work.

The overlap is in the broad survival-horror setup: a dangerous outbreak, an isolated setting, exploration, and puzzles. Reviewers have also discussed familiar survival-horror conventions, but the available player accounts do not establish enough specific detail to claim that every Resident Evil hallmark—such as a particular inventory system or combat loop—is present in a directly comparable form. The first-person perspective is a clear distinction from the series’ better-known third-person entries.

What players like—and what they criticize

Player impressions are mixed and anecdotal, not results from independent testing. A recommended Steam review by Shizuka Ishikawa, posted May 30, 2025, praises the detail in the locations, the soundtrack, and the organization of the puzzles. That reviewer describes the game as first-person horror in a 1990s village during a zombie apocalypse. These are one player’s judgments, rather than verified measures of visual quality or puzzle design.

Other Steam reviewers report friction. A May 28, 2025 review criticizes the transitions between small areas, the plot, animations, and interaction design. Other surfaced reviews mention backtracking, clunky controls, inventory friction, bugs, and cutscenes. Those complaints may matter if you want a smooth, briskly paced experience, but isolated reviews cannot establish how often every player will encounter the same problems.

Who might enjoy it?

EBOLA VILLAGE looks most appealing to players who are curious about a first-person take on classic survival-horror conventions and value an unusual setting, exploration, and puzzles. The favorable review evidence points to atmosphere, location detail, soundtrack, and puzzle organization as possible draws.

It is a more uncertain choice if your enjoyment depends on polished controls, consistently smooth transitions, or tight pacing. The negative reviews flag those areas, but the evidence does not settle how severe or widespread the issues are. Check the current Steam listing for price, language support, updates, and review aggregates before deciding whether the risk is worth it.
