If Eco keeps closing or freezing on your Windows PC, first identify whether the client or a locally hosted server is failing. Then check system requirements, test the installation and mods, and gather the right logs if the crash persists. None of these checks is a guaranteed fix; they help narrow down the cause.
1. Identify what is crashing
Notice whether Eco itself closes while the world or server continues, or whether a locally hosted world stops too. A client crash and a server crash follow different paths and may require different logs. Eco says a locally hosted or single-player session must meet both client and server requirements. Eco’s client requirements explain the distinction.

Also note when the problem happens: at startup, while joining or loading, or during play. This helps you compare later checks and describe the issue accurately.
2. Compare your PC with Eco’s published client requirements
Eco’s current English wiki lists these minimum client specifications. The page says requirements are not final and may change as its Eco 14.x update continues, so check the live page if you are reading this later.

These are client minimums, not a diagnosis of a particular crash. A locally hosted or single-player world also runs a server, which needs server resources in addition to those used by the client. Compare your actual PC and workload before considering hardware changes.
3. Validate the game files through Steam
If you installed Eco through Steam, file validation is a troubleshooting check recommended in Eco support material. It can detect files Steam considers damaged or missing, but a validation result does not prove that file corruption caused the crash.

- In your Steam Library, right-click Eco and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- If Steam reports a problem, allow it to repair or reacquire the files, then try Eco again.

4. Test whether mods are involved
Eco’s technical-help FAQ notes that mods are server-sided, including in single-player because that mode runs a local server. If you use mods, a temporary test without them can help isolate the issue.

- Close Eco and back up your user data before changing any folders.
- Temporarily move the Mods folder out of the game or server location where it is installed.
- Launch the same world or reproduce the same action and see whether the crash still occurs.
- If the test changes nothing, close the game and restore the folder. If it helps, add mods back cautiously to identify whether the problem returns.
Do not delete the folder as a first step; preserve a backup so you can restore your setup.
5. Check the graphics driver in context
Eco support discussion suggests checking GPU logs and drivers, but the available support material does not establish one driver version as a universal fix. If the crash began after a graphics-driver change, that timing is useful evidence; if your driver is outdated, check the GPU maker’s official driver source. Avoid assuming that a driver update will fix a server, mod, or game defect.

6. Check whether one world, area, or action triggers the crash
Try to establish whether the failure happens in every world or only in one, and whether it follows a particular location or action. Record the steps in order, including what you expected and what actually happened. Eco’s bug-reporting instructions ask for expected behavior, actual behavior, and steps to reproduce; those details help distinguish a repeatable game issue from a machine-specific one.

Use evidence from the process that failed rather than guessing from the symptom. Eco’s bug-reporting page lists these crash-dump locations:
Best Value
- Client crash:
Users → (Username) → AppData → LocalLow → Strange Loop Games → ECO → Crashes - Server crash: the server folder at
Eco_Data → Server → Dump
The developer repository also identifies player logs under %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStrange Loop GamesECO and server logs in the Eco server directory. Attach the files that match the failing client or server when reporting the problem. See Strange Loop Games’ EcoIssues repository for issue-reporting information.
8. Report a persistent, reproducible crash
If the crash continues and you can reproduce it, check for an existing similar issue before opening a new report. Include enough context for someone else to follow the failure:
- Eco version and Windows version
- Relevant PC hardware and whether the world is locally hosted
- Exact error text or a screenshot, if available
- Expected behavior, actual behavior, and numbered reproduction steps
- The relevant client logs, server logs, or crash dump
Eco’s bug-reporting guide and the EcoIssues repository provide the reporting routes and requested details.
