ekfpixaudio.dll is an old Kodak application library, not a normal Windows component. If Windows says ekfpixaudio.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair or reinstall the Kodak program that supplied it rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
What this file actually does
The file is identified as NIF KIES AUDIO Library. Public file records associate it with NIF KIES and Eastman Kodak Company. That points to an old third-party Kodak imaging, camera, scanning, or photo application component.

The exact Kodak product that installed it is not confirmed by a current official Kodak document. Several older Kodak programs and hardware packages may have used related components, so the application named in the error is more useful than the DLL filename alone.
ekfpixaudio.dll is not identified as:
- A Windows system file
- A Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable file
- A DirectX component
- A .NET file
- A device driver
- A file that current Windows installations normally provide
Reported file metadata is inconsistent, and the exact architecture is not authoritatively established. Some public records describe it as Win32, which is a stronger indication than conflicting labels that call it x64. Treat it as an application-owned legacy library and restore it through the parent Kodak installation.

Do not download the DLL from a random file site. An isolated download may contain malware, belong to the wrong release, use the wrong architecture, or omit other Kodak libraries that the application also needs. The safe sources are the original Kodak installer, the camera or scanner software disc, OEM recovery media, a backup of the complete installation, or an authenticated vendor archive.
Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
The Kodak program immediately reports that ekfpixaudio.dll is missing |
Incomplete installation, deletion, or quarantine | Repair or reinstall the Kodak application |
| The error started after removing Kodak software | An orphaned shortcut or startup entry is still launching part of the old program | Identify and remove the orphaned entry, or reinstall and uninstall the parent program cleanly |
| The file disappeared after restoring a backup | Only part of the Kodak installation was restored | Restore the complete application or reinstall it |
| The file exists, but Windows says a module could not be found | A dependent DLL may be missing | Reinstall the entire Kodak package rather than copying only this file |
| Antivirus reports the file | The file may be old, altered, or falsely detected | Check Protection history, verify its location and publisher, and scan it |
| Replacing the file produces another missing-DLL error | The Kodak installation has multiple missing dependencies | Repair or reinstall the complete program |
| The problem began after a Windows or software change | A restore point may contain the working installation | Consider System Restore after checking affected programs |
The reported messages can include “The program can’t start because ekfpixaudio.dll is missing from your computer,” “The specified module could not be found,” or “Failed to load ekfpixaudio.dll.” These messages describe a loader failure, but they do not prove that the named file alone is the entire problem.
Fix 1: Identify the application that needs the file
Start by finding the executable that displays the error. Do not begin by searching for a replacement DLL.
- Write down the exact program name in the error dialog.
- Check whether the error appears when you launch a Kodak camera, scanner, imaging, photo-management, or printing utility.
- Open Settings with
Win+I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps in Windows 11. In Windows 10, select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Search for
Kodak,NIF, the camera or scanner model, or the name shown in the error. - Also check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Older desktop applications may appear there even when their modern Settings entry is limited.
- Select a likely Kodak application and choose Advanced options if Windows provides it. Do not expect this option for every traditional desktop program.
- In File Explorer, search the application’s installation folder and then the entire system drive for
ekfpixaudio.dll.
The file’s location can help establish ownership. A copy in a Kodak application directory is more consistent with the available evidence than a copy in a Windows system directory. A file with no clear origin should not be restored merely because its name matches the error.
If different programs produce the error at different times, record each executable. More than one obsolete Kodak component may be installed, or a startup shortcut may be launching an application that you no longer use.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined it
Windows Security may have removed or quarantined the file. This is especially relevant when the Kodak program worked previously and stopped after a security scan, cleanup operation, or update.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open it and select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for the Kodak application directory or
ekfpixaudio.dll. - Expand a detection to see its path, detection name, and available actions.
- Do not restore the file solely because the Kodak application requests it.
- Restore it only when you can confirm that it came from the original Kodak installation, its location is expected, and a current security scan does not identify a continuing threat.
Microsoft explains Protection history and its restore actions in its Windows Security Protection History guidance.
If antivirus repeatedly detects the same file, leave it quarantined until its provenance is established. Do not disable antivirus protection to force the application to start. The safer response is to reinstall the complete Kodak program from trusted original media and investigate why the old file was flagged.
Fix 3: Repair the Kodak application
Repair is the preferred first technical fix because it can restore the missing library while preserving the application’s configuration.

Try the Windows repair option
- Open Settings with
Win+I. - Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Kodak application or the related camera or scanner package.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the Kodak program again.
If the program opens without the error, test the operation that previously failed, such as importing photographs or connecting to the camera. If the error remains, return to the same page and use Reset only if you are prepared for the application to lose local settings or cached data. Windows does not provide Advanced options or Repair for every traditional desktop program.
Use the installer’s Repair or Change option
Some older desktop packages have their own maintenance program.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the Kodak application.
- Look for Change, Repair, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Launch the application from its normal shortcut.
If the maintenance option is unavailable, do not attempt to repair the file by registering it or copying it into a system folder. Move to a complete reinstall.
Fix 4: Reinstall the complete Kodak package
A complete reinstall is usually more reliable than replacing ekfpixaudio.dll by itself. The library may depend on other Kodak files, configuration entries, codecs, or application-specific components.
Before uninstalling, locate the original installer, camera or scanner disc, OEM recovery media, or a trusted backup. If the software stores photographs, catalogs, profiles, or scan settings, back them up separately.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Kodak application.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- If it is not listed, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select it, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after removal.
- Install the program from the original Kodak package or trusted hardware vendor media.
- If the installer offers a destination folder, use its normal default unless the application documentation requires another location.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Launch the application from its newly installed shortcut.
If the installer is on removable media, copy the installer to a local folder first if the media is unreliable. Do not copy only ekfpixaudio.dll from that media. Install the complete package so that its related files are restored together.

If the software is obsolete and no trustworthy installer exists, replacing the application or hardware may be safer than obtaining an isolated DLL.
A successful repair means the original Kodak executable starts and the operation that triggered the error works. If the message changes to a different missing DLL, the repair is incomplete or the application has additional dependencies. Reinstall the full package again and record the new filename rather than downloading each missing file separately.
Fix 5: Verify the file’s location, publisher, and signature
If ekfpixaudio.dll already exists, verify it before allowing the application to use it.

- Right-click the file in File Explorer.
- Select Properties.
- On the General tab, note the full location and whether Windows shows an Unblock option.
- Open the Details tab and review the description, internal name, product information, and publisher fields.
- Open Digital Signatures if the tab is present.
- Select a signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer matches the expected software source.
- Select View Certificate to inspect the certificate information.
A missing signature does not by itself prove that a legacy file is malicious, because old software may not have been signed in the same way as current applications. It does mean that you should rely on the installer’s provenance and the file’s expected application directory.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A copy in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not automatically legitimate. Those folders are not general-purpose storage locations for application DLLs. Keep the file beside the Kodak executable only when it came from the original installation and the application specifically requires that arrangement.
Fix 6: Install Visual C++ only for a confirmed runtime error
Do not install a Visual C++ Redistributable merely because ekfpixaudio.dll is missing. The file itself is identified as a Kodak library, not as a Microsoft runtime component.
A Visual C++ package is relevant when the Kodak installer or a separate error explicitly identifies a missing Microsoft runtime, or when reinstalling the application documents that dependency.
Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads and select the package architecture required by the application. A 32-bit Kodak program on 64-bit Windows generally requires the x86 runtime, not simply the x64 package. Older programs may also require an older runtime, and Microsoft runtimes can coexist.
After installing the documented runtime:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Kodak application.
- Test the operation that previously failed.
- If
ekfpixaudio.dllis still missing, repair or reinstall Kodak. Installing a runtime does not recreate a Kodak-owned DLL.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components when the wider system is damaged
Because ekfpixaudio.dll is a third-party application library, Windows component repair is not the primary fix. Use it when other Windows features are also failing, system files are reporting corruption, or the problem followed a broader system fault.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Try the Kodak application again.
Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions recommend running DISM before SFC. These commands repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a missing third-party Kodak library.
If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations but the Kodak error remains, that result is consistent with the file being outside Windows component protection. Return to the Kodak repair or reinstall path.
When repeated manual SFC and DISM runs are difficult to interpret, Outbyte PC Repair can provide a free scan showing what it identifies; repairing the reported issues requires the full version, and reinstalling the Kodak program remains the definitive fix for this application-owned DLL.

- Review the applications and drivers that will be changed.
- Confirm the restore point and allow Windows to restart.
Microsoft’s System Restore guidance explains that the process can roll back system settings, installed programs, and drivers without deliberately removing personal files. It is still important to review the affected-program list and back up current work first.
If System Restore does not resolve the error, reinstall the Kodak application. Do not repeatedly restore the system when the evidence points to a missing third-party package.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is used for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable evidence that ekfpixaudio.dll is a COM or ActiveX component that requires registration.
Do not run:
regsvr32 ekfpixaudio.dll
Do not use the commonly circulated /u variation as a repair either. The command may return “DllRegisterServer was not found” or create unrelated registry confusion. Application libraries are normally loaded by the Kodak executable from its installation directory; they do not become functional merely because they were registered.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Manual copying into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not a definitive repair. It can place the wrong version in a shared location, create an architecture mismatch, introduce an untrusted file, and still leave the real dependency missing.
On 64-bit Windows, System32 is the native 64-bit system directory, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system components. The folder names are confusing, but neither is a general destination for a downloaded application DLL. A 32-bit program does not become compatible with a 64-bit library because the file was copied into a particular folder.
If a controlled legacy environment requires manual replacement, use a verified file from the original installer and place it beside the application that requests it, preserving a backup first. Reinstalling the entire Kodak package remains safer.

If the Kodak software is no longer needed
If the error appears at Windows startup after Kodak software was removed, an orphaned startup entry may still be launching part of the old program.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove any remaining Kodak application you do not use.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Disable an identifiable Kodak startup entry that points to software you have removed.
- Restart Windows.
- If the message returns, inspect the shortcut or scheduled task that launches the old executable.
Do not delete an unfamiliar startup entry solely because its name resembles Kodak. Check its file location and publisher first. If the old application is still required for a scanner or camera, reinstall it instead of disabling its components.
FAQ
Is ekfpixaudio.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with the third-party NIF KIES library from Eastman Kodak Company.
Which Kodak program installed it?
The exact Kodak product is not verified by an official current Kodak document. Use the executable named in the error, the installed-program list, and the file’s original directory to identify the parent application.
Should I download the DLL from a DLL website?
No. The file may be malicious, incomplete, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture. Restore it through the complete Kodak installer, original device media, a trusted backup, or an authenticated vendor archive.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should I install Visual C++?
Only when the Kodak application or installer identifies a missing Microsoft runtime. ekfpixaudio.dll itself is identified as a Kodak library, not a Visual C++ file.
Does the file belong in System32 or SysWOW64?
Do not place it in either folder as a routine fix. Restore it to the Kodak application directory through the original installer.
Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit DLL?
Public evidence more strongly suggests Win32, but the exact bitness is not authoritatively confirmed. Let the parent application’s installer supply the correct file and dependencies.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Not normally. There is no evidence that this DLL requires COM registration. Repair or reinstall the parent Kodak application instead.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if the file exists but the error remains?
A dependency of ekfpixaudio.dll may be missing, or the file may be damaged or incompatible. Verify its source and signature, then reinstall the complete Kodak package.
When should I use SFC or DISM?
Use them when other Windows components are also failing or broader system corruption is suspected. They are not substitutes for restoring a missing third-party Kodak library.
