El Paso, Elsewhere is a single-player, story-led third-person shooter with slow-motion dives, supernatural enemies, and a neo-noir setting. Its critical reception is positive: GameSpot scored it 8/10, while Steam and PlayStation Store user ratings were positive in the snapshots accessed in 2026. The main caveat is that its story takes time to reveal its wider scope—and storefront ratings can change.
Is El Paso, Elsewhere worth playing?
For players who want a stylish, narrative-focused shooter rather than multiplayer or open-world sprawl, El Paso, Elsewhere is worth considering. Developed and published by Strange Scaffold, it was released on September 26, 2023. The game follows James Savage through a reality-shifting motel in El Paso, Texas, as he battles supernatural enemies and tries to save victims of Draculae, his former partner. Steam describes it as a “new, third-person love letter to classic shooters,” highlighting slow-motion dives, destructible objects, and an original hip-hop soundtrack. Steam store page

The strongest review evidence in the available sources is GameSpot’s 8/10 score. Reviewer Alessandro Barbosa found that the story’s broader scope and vampire mythology become clearer as the campaign progresses, so the narrative may take time to fully engage. Does El Paso, Elsewhere have a good story?
The premise combines a personal relationship with supernatural horror: James Savage confronts Draculae, his former partner, inside a motel whose reality shifts around him. GameSpot’s review describes a story that gradually opens out into a larger conflict and vampire mythology. That delayed expansion is a pacing consideration for players expecting the full narrative scope to be apparent immediately. The available review information does not establish a campaign-length estimate.
