If Emberward is crashing or failing to launch on PC, match the symptom to the developer’s troubleshooting steps rather than applying every fix at once. Refic Games’ guidance covers black or blue launch screens, a white floor, lost progress, multi-monitor frame-rate problems and an IL2CPP launch error; it does not say one procedure resolves every crash. Start with the check that fits what you see.
Try these 8 fixes for Emberward on PC
The steps below follow Refic Games’ symptom-specific guidance. Begin with the relevant check, and avoid changing save data or security settings unless the matching symptom calls for it. The developer’s troubleshooting post was published December 20, 2024; it shows an edit dated September 17, but no year is displayed. Read the pinned troubleshooting post on Steam.
1. Sign in to Steam if the launch screen is black or blue
Make sure Steam is signed in, then launch Emberward from Steam. Refic Games says the game needs Steam data to obtain your Steam ID and load the corresponding save; without that data, it cannot initialize.
2. Try running Steam as administrator
If the black or blue screen continues, close Steam, reopen it with administrator privileges, and start Emberward from the Steam library. The developer also lists this as a possible check when progress does not persist. Use it as a symptom-matched test, not a general cure for every crash.

3. Test whether the save file is causing the launch problem
If the game still will not start, preserve a copy of your save before moving or changing anything. The developer’s diagnostic is to move the save file and try launching again; if the game starts without it, the save may be corrupted.
The listed save folder is %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowReficGamesEmberwardSaveData. Keep the copied file somewhere safe so you can restore it if the test does not help. Moving a save can affect access to that progress, so do not delete it as part of this check.

4. Contact Refic Games if the save appears corrupted
If Emberward launches after the save is moved, contact the developer at [email protected]. Refic Games invites players to send the save file for an attempted repair. The developer says it may generate a replacement save based on the player’s progress if repair is unsuccessful.
5. Update your graphics driver for a white-floor or shader symptom
If the game opens but the floor appears completely white or graphics look shader-related, check for an updated graphics driver. This is the developer’s first graphics check for that symptom; it is not evidence that updating a driver will fix unrelated crashes.

6. Check whether Emberward is using integrated graphics
For the same white-floor issue, check which GPU is running the game. Refic Games says the problem can be relevant when Emberward uses integrated graphics and typically does not occur with a dedicated graphics card. This is a diagnostic clue, not a guarantee that switching GPUs will resolve every visual problem.
7. Check antivirus write restrictions if progress resets
If progress disappears after restarting Emberward, review whether antivirus software is blocking the game from writing files. The developer recommends checking write restrictions and whitelisting the game if that restriction is responsible. Avoid broadly disabling antivirus protection; the documented remedy is to address the specific block.

8. Use the matching fix for multi-monitor FPS or an IL2CPP error
- Low FPS with multiple monitors: If the frame-rate problem happens on one monitor while multiple screens are connected, Refic Games says to disable V-Sync.
- IL2CPP error at launch: The developer suggests turning off Windows Smart App Control because Windows may block an unfamiliar DLL. Treat this as a cautious, temporary diagnostic, not a universal crash fix. Smart App Control is a security setting; understand the security trade-off before changing it, and do not leave protection reduced without a reason.
Check whether the PC meets Emberward’s published minimums
Steam lists these minimum requirements for Emberward. Meeting them is a compatibility baseline, not a guarantee that the game will run without crashes.

What a documented crash fix does—and does not—tell you
Refic Games’ update notes document one specific crash bug: Overcharged Battery could cause a crash under certain conditions, and a post-patch update fixed it. The update record includes entries dated May 2, May 10, May 25 and June 23, 2026. This establishes that a particular in-game issue was addressed; it does not show that Overcharged Battery explains other players’ crashes. Check Emberward’s developer news and update record on Steam.
When the documented checks do not solve the crash
If none of the symptom-matched steps helps, contact Refic Games at [email protected] and describe what happens when you launch or play. The developer’s post does not establish a single fix for other crash causes, so avoid deleting saves or changing unrelated settings based on guesswork.
