Notorious Studios announced that Eldegarde would be removed from Steam and taken offline indefinitely on March 31, 2026, less than two months after its January 21 full release. The studio said the game had not gained enough traction to sustain it financially. Why is Eldegarde shutting down so soon after 1.0?
Notorious Studios attributed the decision to insufficient traction. In its March 4, 2026 announcement, founder and CEO Chris Kaleiki said the game “unfortunately didn’t gain enough traction to sustain the studio financially long term.” That is the studio’s stated explanation, not an independently audited account of its finances. The timing is striking: Steam lists January 21, 2026 as the full release date, and Notorious Studios announced the sunset on March 4. The game had previously entered Early Access on February 12, 2025. Steam’s Eldegarde page lists the release dates.
When were Eldegarde’s servers supposed to shut down?
The studio said Eldegarde would remain playable through March 31, 2026, after which it would be taken offline indefinitely. That is the announced final playable date, not independent confirmation of the servers’ status today. The official sources cited here do not establish whether the shutdown happened on schedule.

What kind of game was Eldegarde?
Steam described three modes: PvE Expeditions, PvPvE Extraction, and Arena. Notorious Studios said Early Access had expanded the original fantasy-extraction concept toward what it called a “Mini MMO.” The available sources do not provide independently verified player-count, sales, or revenue figures to explain the game’s performance.
Can Eldegarde be played offline?
Notorious Studios said a small group volunteered to explore whether the game could be converted for offline or client-side-server play. The studio cautioned that the work could take significant time, might not be achievable, and was not a promise. The cited official updates do not confirm that an offline build was released, so players should not assume one is available.

Can you still get a refund for Eldegarde?
In a March 5, 2026 update, the studio said Steam had agreed to allow refunds regardless of playtime for purchases made within the previous two weeks. That was a dated policy for a limited purchase window, not a standing guarantee of eligibility. Check Steam’s current refund options for your account and purchase; the studio’s announcement feed contains its original update.
