How to read this Dexterity weapon tier list
The groups below are conditional tiers, not an ordered S-to-C ranking. The available build guidance identifies credible candidates but does not supply controlled tests across matching character stats, upgrade levels, affinities, enemies, and game modes. Treat the list as a way to narrow your options, then choose the weapon whose moveset and build requirements suit your character.

There are two distinct routes: a mostly pure-Dexterity setup built around Keen or Lightning affinity, and a Dexterity/Arcane setup that invests in Blood affinity and hemorrhage. A weapon that is excellent for one route may be a poor fit for the other.
Pure Dexterity: Keen and Lightning candidates
These weapons are recommended in a pure-Dexterity shortlist. Where a weapon can accept an Ash of War, affinity options can change its scaling; unique weapons generally have fixed scaling and skills. Check the weapon’s in-game menu before planning around an affinity.

For a Dexterity-first character, Keen is the straightforward affinity to investigate because it emphasizes Dexterity scaling. Lightning also scales with Dexterity while adding lightning damage, so it changes the damage profile rather than simply improving physical output. The best choice depends on your stats and the target; a scaling letter alone does not establish which weapon will deal more useful damage.
Dexterity/Arcane: bleed-oriented candidates
Choose this route when you are willing to invest in Arcane for a status-focused setup. The build guide groups these candidates under Dexterity/Arcane rather than pure Dexterity.

Blood affinity is not simply “more Dexterity.” It is associated with hemorrhage buildup and Arcane, so compare the added status focus against the direct damage and stat priorities of a Keen or Lightning setup. The build guide describes the Dex/Arcane bleed approach as trading some raw damage for hemorrhage; that is a build-level trade-off, not a guarantee of a particular result against every target.

Keen vs. Blood affinity for Dexterity

Affinity is available only where the weapon and its upgrade system allow it. Ordinary weapons can generally be configured with Ashes of War and whetblades; unique weapons generally keep their fixed scaling and skill. The scaling guide says Standard, Heavy, Keen, and Quality are initially available, with other affinities unlocked through whetblades; it identifies the Black Whetblade in Nokron as enabling Poison, Blood, and Occult affinities. Check the game’s current menus and item descriptions if you are planning a specific route.
What makes one Dexterity weapon better for you?
- Build compatibility: Decide whether you are primarily investing in Dexterity or also committing to Arcane. That decision changes which affinity and shortlist make sense.
- Moveset: Weapon class affects attack speed, reach, and the kinds of openings you can punish. Choose a moveset you can use reliably, not only one with an appealing scaling letter.
- Attack opportunities: A weapon’s practical damage depends on how often you can land its attacks or skill safely in the encounter. Do not treat a status-focused setup as equally effective against every enemy.
- Flexibility: Ordinary weapons that accept Ashes of War offer more room to alter skills and affinities. Unique weapons can be worthwhile, but their fixed setup narrows that flexibility.
- Upgrade path: The scaling guide describes ordinary weapons as upgrading to +25 and somber weapons to +10; somber weapons generally cannot change affinity. Confirm the specific weapon’s upgrade path in game.
- Scaling display: Grades from E through S are relative indicators, not a complete damage ranking. The displayed bonus damage is useful to monitor as you level, but base damage, affinity, moveset, and target defenses also matter.
PvE, PvP, and patch context
This shortlist is primarily a build-selection guide for PvE and does not claim that the same ordering holds in PvP. Balance adjustments can distinguish between modes, and the available evidence does not establish that a particular weapon is currently best in either mode.
Bandai Namco Europe’s Elden Ring – Patch Notes Version 1.12, published June 20, 2024, lists under general balance adjustments: “Increased Dexterity scaling when assigning Ashes of War with corresponding weapon Affinities.” The notes state that general balance adjustments apply to PvE and PvP, while the separate PvP-exclusive section does not affect single-player or cooperative play. Version 1.12 is historical context, not confirmation of the latest balance state; check the version currently installed before relying on patch-sensitive comparisons.
