The weapon’s fixed Bloodhound’s Finesse skill and jumping attacks give you ways to deal damage while repositioning; its innate bleed is useful, but should not replace physical damage investment or Vigor.
Where do you get Bloodhound’s Fang?
Defeat Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in southern Limgrave to obtain the weapon. The encounter is accessible before a major boss, and Blaidd can assist if you have advanced the relevant part of his questline. See the weapon location reference and Mobalytics build guide for the location and quest context.

What stats should you level for Bloodhound’s Fang?
First meet the fixed minimum requirements: 18 Strength and 17 Dexterity. The weapon deals physical damage and has 55 innate Blood Loss buildup, according to the Elden Ring Wiki (ESO UI) weapon reference.
After the requirements, avoid treating any single stat spreadsheet as mandatory. Give Vigor enough attention to survive mistakes and Endurance enough to support your preferred armor and repeated attacks. For early damage levels, a Dexterity-forward approach is a sensible starting point: Mobalytics reports B Dexterity and C Strength scaling at +10, while noting that Strength remains useful later. Scaling and damage returns can depend on game version and character setup.

- Collaborating with George R.R. Martin to create the ELDEN RING mythos has been a genuinely delightful experience and a source of wonderful inspiration. The team is working hard to ensure that the world of ELDEN RING will be a fascinating place for players to explore, filled with peril and wonder from its furthest reaches to its lowest depths. This is a FromSoftware title through and through, rich in fantasy and RPG action. We sincerely hope you look forward to it.
- Building the world of ELDEN RING with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat! The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what ELDEN RING has in store for them.” Said George R.R. Martin.
As you gain levels, either keep leaning into Dexterity or move toward a more balanced Strength/Dexterity allocation. Two-handing affects the value of Strength investment, while your current level and need for survivability affect how much you can spare for damage. Neither approach is established as a universal optimum.
Example allocations, not required targets
The Elden Ring Wiki (ESO UI) offers the following illustrative spreads. They are examples from that reference, not independently damage-tested recommendations:
| Character level | Vigor | Endurance | Strength | Dexterity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 30 | 20 | 22 | 25 |
| 100 | 40 | 25 | 40 | 45 |
| 150 | 55 | 30 | 50 | 60 |
Use these as reference points rather than a leveling script: if a spread leaves you too fragile or short on stamina for your play style, adjust it.
How do Bloodhound’s Fang’s upgrades and skill work?
Bloodhound’s Fang uses Somber Smithing Stones and can be upgraded to +10. Its unique skill, Bloodhound’s Finesse, is fixed: this is not a standard weapon that lets you freely replace its Ash of War or affinity. The weapon reference covers its upgrade path and skill. A 2024 guide labeled for game v1.10+ gives an older stone-progression route, but its patch-specific availability details should not be assumed to describe the current game: Guns, Games & Monsters guide.

Finesse begins with an upward slash and backward somersault, creating distance. Press the strong-attack button afterward to trigger its forward lunge and slash. That follow-up can close distance, but it commits you toward the target, so use it when the enemy’s recovery gives you a safe opening rather than treating it as guaranteed protection. Mobalytics describes brief invincibility frames on the follow-up; this guide does not establish their timing or guarantee safety against every attack.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is a practical Bloodhound’s Fang combat loop?
- Wait for an opening. Do not force an approach into an enemy’s active attack.
- Use a jumping attack when safe. Jumping attacks are a notable part of the weapon’s damage and moveset; Mobalytics highlights them as stronger than standard Curved Greatsword jumping attacks, without a numeric comparison here.
- Use Bloodhound’s Finesse to punish or make space. The initial slash and backward movement can deal damage while creating distance.
- Choose whether to follow up. Use the strong-attack follow-up when the enemy is recovering and the forward commitment is safe; otherwise, keep the space you created and reassess.
This loop uses the weapon’s mobility without assuming every enemy will allow the same sequence. A reference build also suggests a jump-attack-to-Finesse-and-retreat pattern; treat it as an option, not a guaranteed rotation.
Does Bloodhound’s Fang need a bleed build or a weapon buff?
No. Its 55 innate Blood Loss buildup is a built-in advantage, but it still deals physical damage and benefits from sensible damage and survivability investment. Bleed should complement the build, not dictate every stat choice.
Bloodhound’s Fang can receive weapon buffs despite its Somber upgrade path. Mobalytics presents Bloodflame Blade as an optional route that adds fire damage and further Blood Loss buildup on successful hits. It is not a requirement, and the cited guide does not provide comparative damage testing to establish that it is always the strongest choice.
