In Elden Ring, curved greatswords are a class of melee weapons built around broad, sweeping attacks. They are not interchangeable: their heavy attacks, skills, stat requirements, status effects, and availability differ, so the right choice depends on your build and what you want the weapon to do. Bloodhound’s Fang is a useful example: it combines a Strength-and-Dexterity requirement with blood-loss buildup and a distinctive weapon skill.
What curved greatswords do
The class’s typical attacks sweep across a wide horizontal area, with some weapons also using slams or distinctive heavy attacks. The class reference describes curved greatswords as having hyper armor and dealing poise damage, but says they cannot feint like ordinary curved swords. Those are class-level tendencies, not a promise that every weapon has the same timing or reach; each weapon’s animations and skill matter.

Notable moveset and matchup differences
The class reference highlights several differences worth checking in-game:
- Zamor Curved Sword: Its light attacks include twirling motions; the reference describes them as somewhat slower but more damaging.
- Omen Cleaver and Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword: Their two-handed heavy attacks are short-ranged, guillotine-style strikes, unlike a straightforward long sweep.
- Onyx Lord’s Greatsword: The class reference reports a 20% damage increase against gravity-aspected enemies. This is a source-reported game mechanic, not a measured performance ranking.
- Freyja’s Greatsword: The reference says it gains increased damage from Redmane-affiliated skills.

What Bloodhound’s Finesse does
An independent fan guide describes Bloodhound’s Finesse as a spinning slash followed by a backflip. The skill gives the weapon a particular attack-and-repositioning feel; try its timing and follow-up in your own game rather than assuming it plays like another curved greatsword.

Upgrade and customization
The same guide reports that Bloodhound’s Fang upgrades to +10 with Somber Smithing Stones and cannot change its affinity or Ash of War. It also describes the weapon as scaling with both Strength and Dexterity. These are guide-reported details, not official patch notes, and the guide warns that balance updates can change values. Choose the class if you want sweeping melee attacks and are willing to select a weapon around its individual animations, skill, and requirements. Before upgrading, check whether its attributes fit your build and whether its special effect or matchup bonus is useful to you. Bloodhound’s Fang illustrates why those checks matter: it pairs Strength and Dexterity demands with blood-loss buildup, a named skill, and a specific acquisition point.
