Its biggest additions are more than 100 new character customization options, expanded vehicle paint tools, and a much more flexible Photo Mode. You do not need Phantom Liberty or a new save to use it.
What Update 2.2 adds
CD PROJEKT RED frames Update 2.2 around self-expression, but the changes reach beyond V’s appearance. The update expands vehicle color customization, adds tools for arranging and displaying screenshots, and includes new vehicle purchases, Johnny Silverhand passenger appearances, and fixes.

Is Update 2.2 free, and what do you need?
Update 2.2 is free for owners of Cyberpunk 2077. CD PROJEKT RED lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. You do not need Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition to get the update, and the official FAQ says you can continue from your existing save. Some additions, including two of the Autofixer vehicles and certain fixes, are specific to Phantom Liberty.

What character customization options were added?
The patch notes list more than 100 new options for V’s appearance. Their counts describe choices in the game’s character creator, not a separate progression system.

The character creator randomizer also gains a Plain-to-Punk slider, giving you a quick way to steer its results toward a less or more alternative look.

How CrystalCoat and TWINTONE work
Update 2.2 extends CrystalCoat beyond Rayfield vehicles to select vehicles from Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort. TWINTONE lets you copy and save compatible vehicle color schemes, then select them through CrystalCoat.

- Use Kiroshi optics to scan a vehicle that supports CrystalCoat.
- Choose the TWINTONE tab and save the scheme for the listed in-game fee.
- Open the TWINTONE database under CrystalCoat to apply a saved scheme to a compatible vehicle.
Generic schemes can be used across compatible vehicles. A unique scheme is restricted to the model it was copied from. Quest-linked vehicles, NCPD vehicles, and vehicles that do not support CrystalCoat cannot be cloned. On Autofixer, a spray-can icon marks compatible vehicles.

The update also makes ten vehicles available to buy through Autofixer. The patch notes mark the Villefort Deleon V410-S Coupé and Mizutani Hozuki MH2 as Phantom Liberty-only; the expansion is not required for Update 2.2 itself.
What changed in Photo Mode?
The drone camera is now a free camera rather than an orbital camera centered on V. You can move farther from the subject and use additional controls to compose a scene.

- Camera control: Toggle collision and camera lock, and use precision mode to slow camera movement.
- Aspect ratio: Choose a custom ratio on PC. Consoles export screenshots at the standard 16:9 ratio.
- Characters: Spawn up to three NPCs from a selection of more than 20, then adjust their expressions, poses, and positions.
- Lighting: Spawn lights and adjust them to shape the scene.
- Gallery and SmartFrames: The Gallery can draw PNG images from the PC screenshots folder or the console gallery; SmartFrames let you display photos in V’s apartments.
Other additions and technical changes
After Act 1, Johnny may sometimes appear in the passenger seat while V drives and react to what is happening. The patch notes also cover additional secrets and a range of quest, Phantom Liberty, gameplay, and miscellaneous fixes.
On PC, CD PROJEKT RED says it optimized threading for Intel Arrow Lake-based CPUs, with performance improvements of up to 33%. That is the publisher’s stated maximum for that specific processor context, not a general performance guarantee for every PC.
