Bloodflame Blade requires 12 Faith and 10 Arcane. It occupies one memory slot, costs 20 FP per cast, and has a listed stamina cost of 10. These game-mechanics values come from the item reference; its publication date is not stated.
- At a Site of Grace, memorize Bloodflame Blade. It takes one memory slot.
- Equip a Sacred Seal that can cast incantations.
- Put the weapon you want to enchant in your right hand.
- Select Bloodflame Blade from your memorized incantations and cast it with the seal. Allow 20 FP for each cast.
The spell can be cast while in motion, according to its in-game description reproduced in the item reference.

Which weapons can receive the buff?
The weapon must accept ordinary weapon buffs, and the spell targets a right-hand armament. As a general rule, Standard, Heavy, Keen, and Quality affinities can receive ordinary buffs. Affinities outside those categories generally cannot. The individual weapon matters too: Smithing Stone weapons are generally buffable, while Somber Smithing Stone weapons generally are not, but there are named exceptions—including Bloodhound’s Fang. These are general rules, not a guarantee for every weapon; the weapon-buff reference lists further exceptions.
Weapon buffs do not apply to ranged weapons or casting implements. If Bloodflame Blade appears to cast but does not enchant your weapon, check the weapon’s affinity and whether that specific armament accepts external buffs.

What Bloodflame Blade does
For 60 seconds, the incantation adds fire attack power equal to 40% of the Sacred Seal’s Faith-based Incantation Scaling. Each hit also applies 40 blood-loss buildup over two seconds. The fire attack power scales with the seal; the listed blood-loss buildup is a fixed per-hit amount that accumulates gradually rather than applying as one immediate status effect. These figures are listed by the item reference, whose publication date is not stated.
The in-game description reproduced by the reference calls it a Blood Oath incantation that “Engulfs armament held in the right hand with bloodflame” and says that, after damage is dealt, bloodflame continues to build up the onset of blood loss “for a very short time.”

If the spell will not apply
- Confirm you have at least 12 Faith and 10 Arcane.
- Make sure Bloodflame Blade is memorized and a Sacred Seal is equipped.
- Hold the intended weapon in your right hand when casting.
- Check that the weapon itself is eligible for ordinary buffs and does not have an incompatible affinity.
