Elden Ring has four talisman slots at most. You begin with one slot and unlock the other three by obtaining Talisman Pouches. The pouches activate automatically when collected—you do not use them from your inventory.
How many talisman slots can you unlock?
| Progress | Total slots |
|---|---|
| Starting capacity | 1 |
| After the first pouch | 2 |
| After the second pouch | 3 |
| After the third pouch | 4 |
The standard game’s maximum is four equipped talismans, not five. Shadow of the Erdtree adds more talismans, but it does not add further equipment slots. Talisman Pouches are key items and take effect immediately when acquired. See the Talisman Pouch reference.

All Talisman Pouch locations
1. Defeat Margit, the Fell Omen
Defeat Margit, the Fell Omen, at the entrance to Stormveil Castle. He rewards the first additional pouch, increasing your capacity from one to two slots.

If you did not defeat Margit, Morgott, the Omen King, can provide the same pouch later. This Margit-or-Morgott reward is tied to the first playthrough, listed as NG/Journey 1; defeating Margit again in New Game Plus does not provide another pouch.
2. Defeat two Shardbearers and speak to Finger Reader Enia
After defeating two Shardbearer bosses, return to Finger Reader Enia in Roundtable Hold and exhaust her dialogue. She awards the second pouch, raising your capacity to three slots.
Enia is in the chamber behind the large doors on the western side of Roundtable Hold. The doors become accessible after defeating a Shardbearer. Defeating Godrick the Grafted and Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, for example, satisfies the two-Shardbearer requirement.
The requirement is defeating two Shardbearers—not activating two Great Runes at Divine Towers. You do not need to activate the runes for this pouch.
3. Defeat the golden shade of Godfrey
Defeat Godfrey, First Elden Lord, the golden shade encountered in Leyndell, Royal Capital. This is the third and final pouch, increasing your capacity to four talisman slots.
Do not confuse this encounter with the later fight against Hoarah Loux, Warrior. The relevant reward comes from the golden Godfrey fight before the Morgott battle.
How to equip the extra talismans
- Open the pause menu.
- Select Equipment.
- Select an available talisman slot.
- Choose a talisman from your inventory and confirm.
The exact confirmation button depends on your platform and current control configuration. The official manual identifies the Equipment menu as the place to change equipped weapons, armor, and other equipment: Elden Ring official manual.
Rank #3
If you collected a pouch but cannot find it in the Inventory menu, that is normal. A pouch is not an item you manually use or equip. Check the Equipment screen for the newly available slot instead.
If Finger Reader Enia does not give you the pouch
On current patched versions, the Enia reward is not permanently lost if you progress too far. If you did not receive the pouch from Enia, visit:
Roundtable Hold → Twin Maiden Husks → Purchase
When available, the pouch costs 500 Runes. The fallback is most commonly relevant when a player defeats Morgott before collecting Enia’s two-Shardbearer reward. In that situation, check the Twin Maiden Husks’ shop inventory rather than repeatedly exhausting Enia’s dialogue.
Patch 1.03, released on March 17, 2022, added this shop fallback for situations in which a player could otherwise obtain no more than two pouches. Bandai Namco described it in the patch notes as: “In situation where the player cannot obtain more than 2 talisman pouches, added talisman pouch to Twin Maiden Husks shop line up.” Read the official version 1.03 patch notes.

- Five slots are not available in the standard game. The maximum is four, including your starting slot.
- You do not use a Talisman Pouch from your inventory. It is a key item that works automatically.
- Morgott does not normally provide the final pouch. He only supplies the Margit-associated pouch when Margit was not defeated. The final pouch comes from the golden shade of Godfrey.
- Two activated Great Runes are not required. Enia’s reward is based on defeating two Shardbearers.
- The Enia pouch is not permanently missable on patched versions. Check the Twin Maiden Husks if the fallback condition applies.
- New Game Plus does not provide extra pouch drops. Pouches are progression items, and the Margit/Morgott reward is listed for NG/Journey 1.
Quick route to all four slots
- Defeat Margit, or later defeat Morgott if you bypassed Margit.
- Defeat two Shardbearers, then speak with Finger Reader Enia in Roundtable Hold.
- Defeat the golden shade of Godfrey in Leyndell.
- Equip talismans through the Equipment menu.
- If Enia’s pouch is missing after advancing, check Twin Maiden Husks and purchase it for 500 Runes when listed.
Bandai Namco’s latest listed base-game update is App Ver. 1.16.1 / Regulation Ver. 1.16.1, dated August 21, 2025; the four-slot limit and Talisman Pouch progression remain unchanged. Check the official Elden Ring news and update listings.
