There is no single legendary weapon that is best for every Nightfarer in every run. All Nightfarers can use every weapon type, but stats, weapon skills and passives, character interactions, the target Nightlord, and the drops you actually find all affect the choice. The picks below are conditional recommendations for the original eight Nightfarers; Scholar and Undertaker need a more cautious, build-first approach because a verified current-patch best pick is not established here.
How to choose a legendary weapon in Nightreign
Bandai Namco’s official Nightreign page says every Nightfarer can use every weapon type and encourages players to try them. That means a character’s preferred weapon is a useful starting point, not a restriction or a guarantee that it is the best drop for your run.

Compare a weapon on four points before committing:
- Character interaction: Does its skill, passive, attack pattern, or status effect complement the Nightfarer’s skill, passive, or ultimate? Bandai Namco’s gameplay guide describes weapon passive effects and relics as parts of build choice. Check the specific effect and its conditions instead of assuming the weapon’s name tells you its value.
- Damage and scaling: Does the weapon benefit from the attributes your character has developed? A preferred weapon type may feel natural, but scaling and a powerful weapon skill can make another type more effective. This is a build consideration, not an official ranking.
- Encounter and team: Consider the Nightlord you are facing, the damage or status options available to your team, ranged access, and whether the weapon helps you stay alive or support the other players. The official beginner guide advises preparing around Nightlord weaknesses and cooperating with teammates.
- Run availability: Drops and build opportunities vary by expedition. Judge the weapon you have, including whether it is more useful in hand or for its passive, rather than planning around a guaranteed legendary.
Legendary is the highest of the four rarity levels named in the official beginner guide, but rarity alone does not make a weapon the best fit for a character or encounter. Bandai Namco says passive effects activate while a weapon is held and can stack with other benefits; consult the individual effect’s conditions in the official gameplay guide.
Best legendary weapon picks for the original eight Nightfarers
These are practical leads from third-party guides, not official rankings or independently verified damage results. The recommendations differ because they assume different builds and priorities. Use them as a way to evaluate a drop, not as a rule to follow regardless of the expedition.

Wylder: Blasphemous Blade for sustain
Game Truth recommends Blasphemous Blade for its healing skill and passive; Switchblade Gaming also identifies it as a strong all-round option. It is a reasonable pick when sustain is the priority. If another weapon better suits your stats, encounter, or team, Wylder is not locked into this choice.
Guardian: choose between team utility, range, and guard-counter fit
Game Truth discusses Commander’s Standard and Bolt of Gransax, while Switchblade Gaming emphasizes halberds or spears for Guardian’s shield-based guard-counter style and names other options. Commander’s Standard makes sense when you value a team buff; Bolt of Gransax offers a ranged attack. If you want a weapon that fits the shield-oriented approach, prioritize a compatible moveset instead of treating either named legendary as an automatic winner.
Ironeye: keep the bow role, but assess the specific weapon
The reviewed guides differ on whether the defining choice is a bow generally or a particular legendary. A bow supports Ironeye’s ranged role, but that does not make every bow equally suitable or a greatbow automatically best. Compare the weapon’s skill and passive with the target encounter and the range your team needs.
Duchess: Scorpion’s Stinger for status, daggers for Restage
Game Truth recommends Scorpion’s Stinger for a rot and status-oriented approach. Switchblade Gaming instead stresses dual-wielded daggers and status buildup for a Restage-oriented setup. Choose based on the plan: the Stinger recommendation assumes you want that status approach, while the dagger recommendation centers on buildup and Duchess’s Restage. Neither is a universal pick independent of the rest of the build.

Game Truth recommends Axe of Godfrey, linking its charged attacks to Raider’s damage window. Treat it as a charged-heavy setup, not a proven top weapon for every Raider. If your run does not support that attack pattern, the recommendation’s central assumption no longer applies.
Recluse: Carian Regal Scepter when your spell loadout supports it
Game Truth recommends Carian Regal Scepter, and Switchblade Gaming also discusses the staff. Its fit depends on the spells available to you and your FP resources. A staff recommendation cannot compensate for a spell loadout or resource supply that does not support the casting plan.

Executor: Rivers of Blood for a status-oriented katana build
Game Truth and Switchblade Gaming both discuss Rivers of Blood in relation to Executor’s katana, status, and parry-oriented kit. Switchblade Gaming also names Hand of Malenia as a higher-risk burst alternative. Consider Rivers of Blood when the status-oriented approach suits your run; choose the burst alternative only if you are willing to accept its higher-risk playstyle.
Revenant: Dragon Communion Seal for casting
Game Truth recommends Dragon Communion Seal for a casting-oriented build. Whether it helps depends on your spell loadout and available resources, so weigh those before keeping it as your primary weapon choice.
Scholar and Undertaker: use a build-first decision
Scholar and Undertaker are DLC Nightfarers from The Forsaken Hollows. The official announcement describes Scholar’s Bagcraft as consumable-oriented and confirms a special thrusting sword, but it does not establish a best legendary for him. It confirms Undertaker as a DLC Nightfarer but does not provide a verified current-patch legendary recommendation for her.
For either character, compare the weapon’s actual skill, passive, scaling, and usefulness against your encounter and team. Scholar’s consumable focus and special thrusting sword are relevant context, not proof that a particular legendary is best. Do not infer Undertaker’s ideal weapon from her archetype alone.
How to test a weapon and account for patches
The official Starter Guide recommends using the Sparring Grounds to practice Nightfarer skills and judge which weapon and equipment suit your playstyle. It allows weapon selection and experimentation, including with higher-rarity weapons. Use it to compare movesets and character interactions; then make the run decision with the drops and encounter in front of you.
Balance recommendations can change with updates. Bandai Namco’s game page lists Hotfix 1.03.5, dated 31 March 2026. The official version 1.03.2 patch notes include changes to Cursed Sword interactions and fixes affecting weapon arts and passive effects. Check the latest official notes before treating any third-party recommendation as current, especially where it depends on a specific skill interaction.
