For a broad, practical pick that works across common situations, Ironeye is the strongest all-round choice among the original eight Nightfarers, with Wylder close behind for flexibility and survivability. This is an editorial ranking, not an official or statistically proven tier list: the best choice changes with solo play, random matchmaking, coordinated teams, and the mechanics you enjoy.
The scope here is the original eight. Bandai Namco’s current roster lists ten Nightfarers, including the later additions Undertaker and Scholar; neither is included in this ranking. Bandai Namco’s character roster describes roles and abilities, but does not rank them.

How this ranking works
The order favors practical value across different runs: self-sufficiency and survivability, reliable contribution despite variable weapon and item drops, usefulness to teammates, and how much specialist knowledge or coordination a kit asks of you. It is not a ranking of maximum damage or a claim about win rates; no publisher-issued character ranking or official class win-rate dataset is identified in the cited sources.
Play context can change the order. A September 2026 community guide reports different recommendations for solo runs, random matchmaking, and coordinated groups, and its featured Depth 5 random-trio ranking differs from another 2026 guide. Those are player opinions, not measured results. The list below is a general-purpose editorial judgment rather than a reproduction of either guide’s tier list. AFK Journal’s dated ranking and context notes are useful evidence of that disagreement.

The 8 original Nightfarers, ranked
1. Ironeye — the most dependable ranged team pick
Ironeye earns the top spot for combining ranged attacks with practical team utility. Marking creates a temporary weak point, while Single Shot pierces enemies and terrain. Eagle Eye improves item-finding for the whole team, not just Ironeye, according to Bandai Namco’s tips. That makes the character useful even when a run’s weapon drops or the party’s composition vary.
Ironeye is a strong option if you prefer to engage at range or want a contribution that benefits allies without requiring elaborate coordination. The trade-off is that a ranged specialist may not suit players who want a straightforward close-combat style.
2. Wylder — the flexible, forgiving melee choice
Wylder is a balanced melee pick with tools for changing the shape of an encounter. Claw Shot can pull suitable enemies or reposition Wylder. Sixth Sense can prevent one death until the passive is restored, giving the character a useful margin for error in both solo and team play.
That combination of adaptability and a built-in safety net makes Wylder an especially sensible starting point. Wylder ranks just below Ironeye because the ranged character’s team-wide item-finding benefit offers broader support across a varied group of runs.
3. Duchess — mobility and damage amplification
Duchess pairs rapid attacks with strong evasion and stamina support, making her effective for players who like to stay mobile and keep pressure on enemies. Restage repeats recent damage in an area, which can amplify a team’s damage when allies coordinate their attacks. Finale can obscure nearby allies.
Her high mobility makes her appealing in many situations, but Restage’s value depends in part on what the rest of the party is doing. Duchess rises in a coordinated group that can capitalize on the ability; players who prefer a more self-contained kit may find Wylder easier to rely on.

4. Executor — a high-ceiling fighter built around timing
Executor’s Cursed Sword can deflect some attacks, rewarding players who learn enemy patterns and time their responses. That offers a distinctive way to handle threats, but it is not a universal block: Bandai Namco cautions that not every attack can be deflected.
Executor’s potential comes with a steeper execution demand than the characters above. If you enjoy learning enemy moves and responding precisely, the kit can be rewarding; if you want a more forgiving general pick, Wylder is a safer recommendation.
5. Raider — heavy hits and protection for nearby allies
Raider brings heavy weapons and a sturdy, team-oriented skill set. Retaliate reduces incoming damage and, when enhanced, can stagger large enemies. Totem Stela creates a protective aura and boosts the strength of nearby allies, giving Raider a clear role when a group can make use of that space and support.
The enhanced retaliation requires timing, and it can be unreliable against fast-moving targets. Raider is a compelling bruiser, particularly when the party can stay near the totem, but that dependence keeps the character below the more broadly useful picks.
6. Recluse — powerful spell options with a mechanic to manage
Recluse is the original roster’s spell-focused Nightfarer. She collects affinity residues to create spells and can use residues to replenish FP, so understanding the residue system is central to getting value from the character.
That additional mechanic makes Recluse less immediately straightforward than a general-purpose fighter. It is a meaningful trade-off, not a reason to dismiss her as simply weak: players who enjoy tracking resources and building around spellcasting may prefer her to several higher-ranked characters.

7. Guardian — the defensive anchor
Guardian is the roster’s defensive specialist. Steel Guard improves blocking; Whirlwind can draw enemies together and sweep away light projectiles; Wings of Salvation can protect or rescue allies. Those abilities are most valuable when the party benefits from having a teammate who can anchor a fight and look after others.
Guardian’s value is more dependent on the team’s needs than that of a self-sufficient generalist. In coordinated play, protection and rescue tools can matter more than this broad ranking suggests; in a less organized group, the character may have fewer opportunities to show that strength.
8. Revenant — useful distractions, less dependable boss support
Revenant centers on summons. Her Family can distract enemies, and her passive can summon from enemy deaths, but those summons are time-limited. Bandai Namco’s tips specifically caution that the Family may struggle to withstand bosses and function more as a distraction than as dependable boss damage.
That gives Revenant a distinct role, but also a clearer limitation against major targets. She can still suit players who enjoy summon-oriented play; she ranks last here because her signature support is less reliable in the encounters where a team may most want sustained help.
Which Nightfarer should you choose?
- For a first character or a flexible melee style: choose Wylder for adaptable tools and a passive that can prevent one death.
- For ranged play and a team-wide utility benefit: choose Ironeye for piercing shots, marking, and Eagle Eye’s item-finding effect for allies.
- For fast movement and coordinated damage: choose Duchess if you want repeated evasions and a team that can take advantage of Restage.
- For learning enemy patterns: choose Executor if timing deflections sounds appealing and you are comfortable with the fact that some attacks cannot be deflected.
- For a heavy bruiser who protects nearby allies: choose Raider if you like heavy weapons and can use Totem Stela’s aura effectively.
- For a resource-driven spellcaster: choose Recluse if collecting and using affinity residues is part of the appeal.
- For defense and ally protection: choose Guardian when your group benefits from an anchor and rescue tools.
- For summon-oriented play: choose Revenant if you value distractions, while keeping the Family’s boss limitations in mind.
Is there an official Nightfarer tier list?
No official best-to-worst ranking is given by the publisher’s character pages or gameplay guides cited here. Bandai Namco describes Nightfarers’ roles and abilities, which support comparisons of how their kits work, but not a universal verdict on which character performs best. Community tier lists are opinions shaped by their authors’ mode, depth, team setup, and preferences.
Which Nightfarer is best for solo play?
Wylder is a strong general recommendation for solo play because Claw Shot adds flexibility and Sixth Sense can prevent one death until restored. Ironeye is another practical choice if you prefer ranged combat. The answer still depends on your preferred mechanics: a player comfortable with Executor’s timing or Recluse’s residue system may get more from those kits than from a broadly accessible pick.
