To use Relic Rites in Elden Ring Nightreign, go to the Round Table, open the Relic Rite menu, select the Nightfarer you are preparing, and equip Relics in vessel slots that match their colors. Check each Relic’s effect before committing to a build: some suit almost any character, while others depend on a specific Nightfarer, action, or ability.

Where to find Relic Rites

Relics are equipped before an expedition through the Relic Rite menu at the Round Table. Bandai Namco’s starter guide describes the altar as being beside the Table of Lost Grace and marked with blue candles. Open the menu and choose the Nightfarer whose loadout you want to prepare.

How to equip Relics

  1. Choose a Nightfarer. Relics are assigned to the selected character’s designated vessels, so prepare each character separately.
  2. Pick a compatible vessel slot. Check the slot’s color and use a Relic that matches it. Some advanced Relic Rites have an uncolored slot that accepts any Relic type.
  3. Read the effect description. Consider whether its condition or ability applies to your chosen Nightfarer and the way you plan to play.
  4. Repeat for the remaining slots. A character can equip up to three Relics, subject to the available vessels and their slot colors.

Exact button prompts can differ by platform and control configuration. Follow the prompt shown in your in-game menu rather than relying on a universal button sequence.

How Relics and chalices work

Relics provide persistent changes to Nightfarer stats or abilities. A Relic can have up to three effects, and the game’s tiers indicate how many it carries:

Colors chiefly determine which chalice slots accept a Relic. Bandai Namco notes that some colors are associated more with certain kinds of stat bonuses, but color is not a substitute for reading the effect itself. The right choice depends on both whether it fits the vessel and whether its effect benefits the selected Nightfarer.

How to decide which Relics to use

  • Check character and ability fit. A character- or ability-specific effect is useful only when it applies to the Nightfarer and actions you intend to use.
  • Estimate how often the trigger will happen. A powerful effect may contribute little if its required situation is rare in your usual play.
  • Balance broad bonuses with specialized effects. General stat improvements may be dependable; specialized effects can be valuable when your build reliably activates them.
  • Compare the number of effects, not just the tier name. Grand Relics have three effects, but that alone does not make one the best fit for every character or chalice.

These are decision criteria, not a tested ranking: no official source establishes a universally strongest Relic or build.

Test an unfamiliar effect before an expedition

Bandai Namco’s beginner tips recommend trying Relics in the Sparring Ground, especially those that change a Nightfarer’s ability. This lets you see how an effect works before building an expedition loadout around it.

When Relic effects activate and what happens on return

The official starter manual states: “The effects of the equipped Relics will be activated at the start of the Expeditions, and they will not be consumed.” Equipping a Relic therefore prepares its effects for the expedition; it is not used up when the expedition ends.

How to get more Relic options

Bandai Namco says additional chalices can be purchased from the Pot Merchant or unlocked through play. The advanced guide also identifies Nightfarer Journal Remembrances as a way to unlock more Relics for individual characters, and defeating Nightlords as a source of unique Relics. Better expedition performance yields more Relics, which increases the chance of receiving a Grand Relic; no specific drop rate is stated.

Bandai Namco’s gameplay page links updates through March 31, 2026, but its Relic description is not a dated patch note. A July 31, 2025 PC Gamer report on version 1.02 described Relic Effect filters and the ability to sell and favorite Relics; that is historical interface context, not confirmation of the current menu’s exact labels. For current controls or changed mechanics, use the in-game prompt and consult current official patch notes.
