Leaving or disconnecting from an ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN multiplayer session in progress can trigger a penalty that may limit multiplayer features. Bandai Namco says rejoining the session you left removes the disconnection penalty. In Deep of Night, returning immediately also prevents the rating at the time of disconnect from being recorded.
What happens if you leave a Nightreign session?
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.02.2 patch notes say that disconnecting because of network trouble or quitting the game during a session in progress can result in penalties that may limit multiplayer capabilities. The wording is conditional: it does not say that every exit always triggers a fixed restriction. The publisher also says the session-disconnection penalty rate was adjusted, but does not publish a duration, repeat-leave threshold, or formula.

The official Japanese Version 1.02.2 notes cover disconnection, returning to the title screen, or ending the game during a multiplayer session. How to remove the disconnection penalty
- Return to the session you left. Use the game’s rejoin option for that same session as soon as you can.
- In Deep of Night, return immediately. Bandai Namco says doing so removes penalties incurred at disconnect. The announcement does not define “immediately” as a number of seconds.
The general Version 1.02.2 guidance says rejoining the session removes the penalty; the Deep of Night announcement specifies an immediate return. Bandai Namco’s Deep of Night announcement.

What changes in Deep of Night?
Deep of Night adds a rating consequence to the multiplayer leave penalty. The official announcement says disconnecting or quitting during a multiplayer session incurs a penalty and decreases rating. Returning immediately removes the penalties and means the rating at the time of disconnect is not recorded.
This is separate from the mode’s ordinary failure rating change: Bandai Namco says rating decreases after a failure vary with session progress, and ordinary rating changes are the same in single-player and multiplayer. That ordinary rule should not be confused with the additional consequence tied to leaving a multiplayer session.

Have later updates changed the leave penalty?
Bandai Namco’s later notes document fixes involving disconnected sessions, but they do not establish a new leave-penalty formula. Version 1.02.4, dated October 7, 2025, fixed a Deep of Night bug in which progress from a disconnected expedition that had not reached victory or defeat could carry into the next expedition’s result; it also fixed multiplayer behavior that could break after a disconnection. Version 1.03.2, dated January 15, 2026, fixed several issues involving a host leaving after an expedition launched and effects following a session leave and rejoin. Those are documented fixes, not confirmation of a changed penalty rule. Version 1.03.2 notes.
