Is Nightreign Elden Ring 2?
No. FromSoftware describes Nightreign as a spin-off, not a numbered sequel. Its structure and design are different from the original Elden Ring, even though it draws on that game’s world and elements.
How does Nightreign play?
Players select Nightfarers and attempt to survive a changing three-day cycle. They explore and strengthen their characters as the field changes, then face a Nightlord. The game supports cooperative play for up to three players as well as single-player. The reveal announcement introduced this core run structure.

Do you need Elden Ring to play Nightreign?
No. Nightreign can be played on its own, without owning the original Elden Ring. FromSoftware states: “ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN can be played standalone, without the ELDEN RING base game.” The release announcement confirms the standalone status.
