ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is out now. FromSoftware’s standalone co-op action survival game launched worldwide on May 30, 2025. You can play solo or in three-player co-op, and you do not need to own ELDEN RING to play it.
What is ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN?
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is a session-based action survival game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It reshapes parts of ELDEN RING around expeditions in Limveld, a changing region where players explore, build strength, survive successive stages and ultimately face a Nightlord.

FromSoftware described it as “A co-op action survival game that reforms aspects of ELDEN RING’s game design into a brand-new experience” in its February 12, 2025 announcement. It shares elements of the original game, including weapons and enemies, but features distinct playable characters called Nightfarers and is a separate game rather than an expansion requiring the base title.
When did Nightreign come out?
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN released worldwide on May 30, 2025. It is no longer an upcoming 2025 game; Bandai Namco’s current game page lists it as available now.

Which platforms support Nightreign?
The game is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC through Steam. FromSoftware confirms Xbox Smart Delivery and cross-generation play between Xbox Series X and Xbox One. The official pages cited here do not confirm cross-platform play between PlayStation, Xbox and PC, so check the platform listing and do not assume players on different console families can join each other.
Can you play Nightreign solo or with friends?
Nightreign supports single-player and three-player co-op. Bandai Namco Europe’s launch guide says solo play does not require an online connection. For multiplayer, the supported party size is three; the available official information does not establish that general cross-platform matchmaking is supported.
How does an expedition work?
The core loop is to explore Limveld, strengthen your character and survive the expedition’s successive stages before confronting its major threat. The developer’s December 13, 2024 gameplay overview described a three-day structure, with preparation through exploration and character growth and a powerful Nightlord waiting on day three. That announcement also described eight Nightfarers and eight threats; those are launch-era details, not a complete count of all content available after later additions.

Do you need to own ELDEN RING?
No. ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is standalone and can be played without the ELDEN RING base game, according to FromSoftware’s release announcement.

Bandai Namco’s current game page lists Standard, The Forsaken Hollows, Deluxe and Collector’s editions. The publisher describes The Forsaken Hollows as adding two Nightfarers, two bosses, additional Shifting Earth and more. The Deluxe listing includes the base game, a digital artbook and mini soundtrack, and The Forsaken Hollows. The Collector’s Edition listing adds physical items including a Wylder statue, Steelbook, Nightfarer cards, a hardcover artbook, digital soundtrack and collector’s box.
For a physical copy, FromSoftware’s original announcement confirmed Standard Edition packages for PS5 and PS4; it described package and download versions, with physical availability limited to those PlayStation platforms. Edition availability and bundles can vary by region, so check the live store listing for your platform before buying. Compare whether a listing is physical or digital, whether it includes The Forsaken Hollows, and which digital or physical extras it contains rather than relying on older announcement details.

How many copies has Nightreign shipped?
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco reported more than 5 million units shipped worldwide as of July 24, 2025. Their announcement says that figure includes digital versions and Steam downloads; it is a dated shipment measure, not a count of active players or a current sales total. The companies’ announcement provides the figure and qualification.
