The Crater is a base-game Shifting Earth event in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN, not the DLC location The Great Hollow. It changes part of Limveld, but the expedition’s short days still set the pace: level up, collect useful gear, and prepare for nightfall rather than treating the area as a leisurely dungeon. The available official guidance explains those expedition systems, but it does not establish a verified entrance-to-objective route or a complete Crater reward list.
What is The Crater in Nightreign?
Shifting Earth events alter the expedition map. The Crater is described by a secondary community reference as the first unlocked event of this type and as replacing central-north Limveld; treat that location detail as community information, not an official map specification. The official gameplay guide says the broad layout remains more or less recognizable between expeditions, while loot, enemies, and bosses can change. A route that worked in one session may therefore encounter different threats or rewards in another.

How do I unlock the Crater?
The Crater is identified as a base-game Shifting Earth event. The available official gameplay guidance does not specify the precise unlock condition for this event, so it cannot establish an exact menu path or milestone. A secondary reference identifies it as the first Shifting Earth to unlock, but that should not be treated as an official unlock checklist. For current requirements, check the in-game Shifting Earth selection and its displayed conditions.

Do not confuse this event with The Great Hollow. FromSoftware describes The Great Hollow as a separate Shifting Earth added with The Forsaken Hollows DLC: a vast cavity deep in Limveld featuring ruins, temples, sacred towers, and life-draining miasma. FromSoftware’s DLC announcement describes that setting; it is not another name for The Crater. Bandai Namco’s DLC unlock guide covers access to the expansion content.
How do I get through The Crater in Nightreign?
Use the normal expedition loop to make decisions in the altered terrain. Official gameplay guidance says a Nightfarer begins at level 1, earns runes by defeating nearby enemies, and spends them at Sites of Grace to level up. Each day’s limited time means exploring, fighting, looting, and preparing for nightfall compete with one another. The practical goal is to spend time where it improves your readiness, not to clear every visible encounter.
- Orient yourself first. Check the map and the current expedition objective before committing to a distant detour. The Crater changes the terrain, while the broad Limveld layout and session-specific enemy and loot placements can vary.
- Build strength efficiently. Fight nearby enemies for runes and use Sites of Grace to level. Prefer useful progress on the route over optional fights that consume time without helping the expedition.
- Keep the day-night clock in view. Leave enough time to reach the next required encounter and prepare for nightfall. The official guide emphasizes that limited daytime forces prioritization.
- Adapt to the current run. Enemy, boss, and loot placements can shift between sessions, so do not assume a remembered sequence will match the current expedition.
These are expedition-planning principles, not a confirmed Crater route. The sources available do not establish a specific entrance, objective-by-objective path, enemy order, or complete list of rewards for The Crater. Avoid relying on a route or reward checklist unless it has been checked against the current game or a guide that actually shows the Crater map.

What do I get for completing The Crater?
A complete, verified Crater reward list is not established by the available official sources. Because Nightreign’s loot and encounters can change between sessions, a reward reported for one run should not automatically be treated as guaranteed. Check the current expedition’s objective and in-game reward display rather than assuming a fixed checklist.
Where can I find a Crater map?
The official Bandai Namco Store lists the ELDEN RING Nightreign Official Companion Guide from Future Press as a 400-page hardbound book, ISBN-13 9783869931357. Its product description says it includes detailed illustrated maps of Shifting Earth locations, but the store listing does not show the Crater map or its instructions. It is a broader printed reference, not a dedicated Crater walkthrough. See the official companion guide listing.
A community Shifting Earth reference may help identify event names and general context, but it is not an official map specification: Nightreign: Shifting Earth on Elden Ring Wiki.gg. A separate PowerPyx guide lists Shifting Earth locations, but its event-selection claim is dated May 30, 2025; it says different active party events may be randomly selected. Treat that behavior as provisional rather than a guaranteed current rule: PowerPyx’s Shifting Earth locations guide.
