The DLC was released on December 3, 2025, according to Steam. The official Japanese schedule lists console availability at midnight on December 4 and Steam availability at 08:00 JST that day; Bandai Namco America’s instructions say Steam downloads began at 00:00 UTC on December 4. These are different platform and time-zone references to the launch, not conflicting release dates.
What does the DLC include?
Steam describes The Forsaken Hollows as adding two Nightfarers, two Day Three bosses, one new Shifting Earth, and more. These are advertised content counts, not performance or gameplay measurements.

What do you need before playing?
- The base game: ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is required. The prerequisite is not the 2022 game ELDEN RING.
- The DLC entitlement: The add-on can be purchased separately, but it is included in the Deluxe Edition. The official Japanese product page also lists it in the Collector’s Edition. Edition and bundle availability varies by region, so check your library and edition contents before buying to avoid paying twice.
- The game update: Bandai Namco says App Ver. 1.03 is required to access the DLC.
How to install or activate The Forsaken Hollows
Install the add-on through the platform where you play. The following are the published platform instructions; menu names may change.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Search the PlayStation Store for ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN The Forsaken Hollows PS4 & PS5.
- Download the add-on. If you own it through an edition or preorder, check whether it still needs to be downloaded manually.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
- Open the game’s Manage Games & Add-ons screen.
- Select The Forsaken Hollows add-on, save your changes, and install it. The Xbox guide also describes accessing add-ons from owned titles.
Steam
- In your Steam Library, right-click ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN and open Properties.
- Select DLC and make sure The Forsaken Hollows is checked.
- Restart the Steam client if needed; the official guide says the DLC installs after the update.
How to unlock the Balancers expedition
Installing the DLC does not immediately unlock its principal new expedition. To access the Balancers boss expedition and the Great Hollows Shifting Earth event, progress the base game and complete these requirements:

- Defeat at least two main-game bosses, including Tricephalos.
- Make Scholar and Undertaker playable. The official Japanese guide says defeating Tricephalos triggers a message from the Small Jar Merchant through the servant puppet; follow the prompt to unlock the two Nightfarers.
- Go to the chapel that opens behind the Small Jar Merchant.
Once these conditions are met, the Balancers expedition becomes available.
