What Tarnished Edition contains
The Switch 2 package enumerates three core components:
- The Elden Ring base game.

The Tarnished Pack is not a Switch 2-exclusive. Nintendo Switch 2: choose it for portability and the bundle
Switch 2 is the only option in this comparison whose official launch material explicitly promises both handheld and docked play. That matters if you want to continue a long open-world session away from a television or monitor, or if Nintendo hardware is where you keep most of your games.

The publisher lists Elden Ring for PS5, and its store includes a standard edition as well as editions involving Shadow of the Erdtree. The Tarnished Pack is also offered for PS5. If you already own the console, your decision is mainly about which edition contains the content you want, not about buying new hardware.

A separate purchase of Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game. If you are starting from zero, select a current edition that explicitly includes both rather than assuming the expansion is a standalone game.
Xbox Series X|S: choose it when your library and accounts are on Xbox
Xbox Series X|S has the base game, expansion editions, and Tarnished Pack availability listed by the publisher. Official 2024 product details state that the Xbox One and Xbox Series versions use Smart Delivery and can be played between those platform generations. For a player upgrading within Xbox, that reduces the need to repurchase a separate generation-specific copy, although you should still read the current store page for the exact product and entitlement being sold in your region.

Performance: what can and cannot be concluded
It is tempting to declare one edition the technical winner, especially when comparing a new handheld-capable console with established home consoles and PC.
