Seluvis’s optional quest branches on what you do with his potion: give it to Nepheli Loux, give it to Dung Eater after he is restrained, or have Gideon dispose of it. The first two choices sacrifice that character’s normal quest outcome in exchange for a puppet Spirit Ash. If you want Seluvis’s shop or late reward, finish the content you want before giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade; that milestone closes his remaining opportunities.
How Seluvis’s quest fits into Ranni’s storyline
Seluvis is one of Ranni’s servants, and his optional quest becomes available after you begin Ranni’s storyline and speak with him at Ranni’s Rise. He gives you a potion and asks you to administer it to Nepheli Loux. The request is a consequential branch, not a routine delivery: your choice affects Nepheli’s or another character’s quest outcome and determines which puppet-related reward you can pursue.

Choose based on the character quest outcome you want to preserve and the puppet Spirit Ash you want; the available evidence does not establish one puppet as universally better. Do not give the potion to Ranni. The later Amber Draught is a separate branch, and using it on Ranni disrupts her quest.
How to pursue Seluvis’s puppet shop
Explore the hidden cellar connected with Seluvis’s operation, then confront him about it and continue his dialogue. Further progress can open access to puppet Spirit Ashes. Which puppets are available depends on your potion choice and how far you have advanced the relevant quests. For the Dung Eater Puppet, first progress Dung Eater’s quest until his body is restrained in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds cell; then give him Seluvis’s potion. The puppet is available through Seluvis’s shop for 5 Starlight Shards.

A later optional branch involves finding Amber Starlight, returning to Seluvis, and exhausting his dialogue to receive the Amber Draught. This is separate from the initial potion choice and is associated with the Magic Scorpion Charm reward. The draught is intended for Ranni, but giving it to her disrupts her quest; do not use it on her if you want her normal storyline to continue.

Complete the Seluvis content you want before handing Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade. Quest references report that this progression closes Seluvis’s remaining opportunities, including access to his shop or late reward. If you are still pursuing a puppet or the Amber Draught branch, do not cross that milestone yet.
