There is no single best staff for every Elden Ring build. Carian Regal Scepter is a strong general-purpose choice for high-Intelligence characters; Lusat’s Glintstone Staff trades more FP for power; hybrid builds can favor Staff of the Great Beyond or Prince of Death’s Staff; and specialist staves can boost particular sorceries even when you cast with another staff. This guide ranks ten useful choices by build fit, spell bonuses, FP cost, and available evidence—not as a definitive current-version power order.
How to read this ranking
Staff performance depends on your attributes, upgrade level, chosen sorceries, and willingness to spend more FP. A high displayed Sorcery Scaling value is useful, but it does not tell the whole story: a held staff may boost a spell school while another staff does the casting, and an efficient generalist may suit a build better than a costly damage specialist.

The figures below are item-page examples, not independent performance tests. Eldenpedia’s item pages are undated, and its version archive reports that Elden Ring 1.17 released August 27, 2026 with gameplay balance adjustments. The archive does not establish which staff values those adjustments affected, so treat the figures as reported reference points and check the current in-game values for your upgrade level before making a final comparison. 10 useful staves, ranked by build fit
This is an editorial shortlist that mixes general-purpose and specialist value. It is not a claim that each entry strictly outperforms the one below it for every character.

Carian Regal Scepter — high-Intelligence general use
A strong starting point for a high-Intelligence sorcerer who wants a general-purpose casting staff. Eldenpedia reports 373 Sorcery Scaling at 80 Intelligence and 287 at 60 Intelligence, both at maximum upgrade. Those are specific stat and upgrade examples, not universal values. Carian Regal Scepter
-
Staff of the Great Beyond — Intelligence/Faith hybrid casting
Consider this for a character investing in both Intelligence and Faith. The item page reports 210 Sorcery Scaling at 25 Intelligence and 25 Faith, and 309 at 45 Intelligence and 45 Faith, at maximum upgrade. These examples make it a meaningful hybrid option; they do not establish a universal best staff across all stat spreads. Staff of the Great Beyond
-
Prince of Death’s Staff — higher-investment Intelligence/Faith
This is another hybrid option, with its relative appeal depending on your Intelligence and Faith allocation. Eldenpedia reports 266 Sorcery Scaling at 45 Intelligence and 45 Faith at maximum upgrade; the same source reports 309 for Staff of the Great Beyond at those stats. That comparison favors the Great Beyond at this stated point, but the available figures do not establish a crossover point or a full scaling curve. Prince of Death’s Staff
-
Lusat’s Glintstone Staff — power at a higher FP cost
Lusat’s is a damage-oriented option for players willing to pay more FP for its increased cost. That cost is part of the choice, not a minor footnote: frequent casting can make the trade-off less attractive than a general-purpose staff. Compare your own spell rotation and FP supply before choosing it. Lusat’s Glintstone Staff

Staff of Loss — Night Comet and Night Shard specialist
For builds centered on Night Comet or Night Shard, Staff of Loss has a reported 30% attack-power increase for those sorceries when the staff is held. The source describes using it in the other hand while casting with a stronger general-purpose staff. This makes its value different from a simple comparison of the casting staff’s displayed scaling. Staff of Loss
-
Maternal Staff — Finger Sorcery and Intelligence/Arcane
Introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree, Maternal Staff is a specialist for Finger Sorceries and an option for an Intelligence/Arcane hybrid. It belongs on a build-specific shortlist rather than being treated as a universal upgrade for every Intelligence caster. Maternal Staff
-
Carian Glintstone Staff — Carian Sword Sorcery support
This staff’s reported 15% attack-power increase applies to Carian Sword Sorceries when it is held. The item page describes using the bonus staff in the off-hand while another staff casts, so a build focused on those spells can benefit without relying on it as the main casting implement. Carian Glintstone Staff
-
Academy Glintstone Staff — general-field candidate
This staff is part of the broader field of conventional sorcery staves, but the available item-index evidence does not provide a current, stat-by-stat scaling comparison or enough detail to assign it a precise place against the choices above. Compare its in-game scaling at your own attributes and upgrade level before selecting it. Glintstone staff index

Azur’s Glintstone Staff — general-field candidate
Azur’s Glintstone Staff is another notable option in the staff field, but the available evidence here does not establish its current comparative scaling or full trade-offs. Its exact value for your build should be judged from the current item description and status screen rather than assumed from its name or reputation. Glintstone staff index
-
Meteorite Staff — general-field candidate
Meteorite Staff belongs in a broad list of recognizable options, but the available material does not establish a current comparative scaling figure or enough acquisition and upgrade detail to support a precise placement. Check its present in-game scaling against your build before treating it as a long-term choice. Glintstone staff index
Choose by build and spell plan
| Build or use | Staff to consider | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| High Intelligence, broad sorcery use | Carian Regal Scepter | Reported high-Intelligence scaling examples; compare at your actual stats and upgrade level. |
| Intelligence and Faith | Staff of the Great Beyond or Prince of Death’s Staff | Hybrid scaling varies with stat allocation; the cited 45/45 example favors Great Beyond. |
| Damage focus with more FP available | Lusat’s Glintstone Staff | Its increased FP cost is the central trade-off. |
| Night Comet or Night Shard focus | Staff of Loss, including as an off-hand bonus staff | Reported 30% attack-power increase when held. |
| Finger Sorceries with Intelligence/Arcane | Maternal Staff | Specialist fit; not a universal recommendation. |
| Carian Sword Sorceries | Carian Glintstone Staff, including as an off-hand bonus staff | Reported 15% attack-power increase when held. |
When a staff in the other hand is worth using
A specialist can contribute a spell-school bonus without being the staff that casts the spell. The Staff of Loss and Carian Glintstone Staff are examples: their reported bonuses apply when held, and their item pages describe pairing them with another casting staff. For a spell-focused setup, compare the total benefit of the bonus with the casting staff’s scaling rather than choosing solely by the displayed scaling on the held specialist.
Do not overlook the Carian Sorcery Sword
If you are considering alternatives to a conventional staff, the Carian Sorcery Sword can cast sorceries. Its item page describes it as the only non-staff weapon with Sorcery Scaling and casting capability. It is a weapon option rather than another staff in this ranking, so compare it only if its weapon role also suits your build. Carian Sorcery Sword

How to make the final choice in-game
-
Set your character’s actual Intelligence, Faith, and Arcane values as the comparison baseline; hybrid staves are especially sensitive to the spread.
-
Compare the Sorcery Scaling shown for each staff at the upgrade level you can realistically reach. Do not compare a maximum-upgrade figure for one staff with an unupgraded value for another.
-
Account for the spells you actually cast. A held bonus for Night or Carian Sword Sorceries may matter even if that staff is not your casting implement.
-
Factor in FP cost, especially when considering Lusat’s Glintstone Staff. Higher output does not make the increased cost disappear.

Verify the current values in your game. The version archive records gameplay balance adjustments in 1.17 but does not specify staff-level effects, so historical item-page figures should not be presented as confirmed 1.17 values.
