There are three paintings in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree: Incursion, The Sacred Tower and Domain of Dragons. Each painting is a pickup in one place, while its painter spirit waits at the scene shown in the image. Find and approach the spirit to make it disappear and receive its reward.
This guide covers the expansion’s three paintings only; the base game has a separate set of seven. PC Gamer’s guide, published June 20, 2024, documents the locations and routes below. The expansion requires the Elden Ring base game.

How the painting puzzles work
Collect a painting, then travel to the real location depicted in it and look for the painter spirit. The painter is separate from the painting’s pickup point; approaching the spirit makes it vanish and leaves an item. The routes below identify the relevant landmarks and hazards, so you can go directly to each solution.
Incursion: Serpent Crest Shield
Find the painting
The Incursion painting is in the Artist’s Shack on a rocky rise at the southern end of Cliffroad Terminus in Gravesite Plain. From Main Gate Cross, southeast of Belurat, follow the rocky trail uphill past bats to Cliffroad Terminus, then head south and climb the outcrop to the shack.

Find the painter
Start at Greatbridge, North, near Abandoned Ailing Village. Travel west and cross the water, taking care not to wake the Ghostflame Dragon. Continue to the archway shown in the painting’s foreground; the painter stands in front of it. Approach the spirit to receive the Serpent Crest Shield, which is particularly effective at blocking fire attacks.
The Sacred Tower: Spiraltree Seal
Find the painting
The painting is in a cave northeast of the Scorched Ruins in Gravesite Plain, directly east of a wandering Furnace Golem. It is easy to reach early, but its painter is the last of the three to become accessible along the guide’s routes.
Reach the painter
- From Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus, go north through the cave behind the Marika statue. Continue through the poison- and Gravebird-filled area until you reach Ancient Ruins Base.
- Travel west along the valley with two golems, keeping to the left, until you find a sealed Spiritspring.
- Find the spring’s stone pillar farther up the cliff behind a low wall and break it to unlock the Spiritspring.
- Ride the spring to the plateau with the Northern Nameless Mausoleum. Go south past the mausoleum, then descend at the far edge of the cliff to reach the painter.
Approach the spirit to collect the Spiraltree Seal, a casting item that buffs Spiral incantation spells.

Find the painting
The Domain of Dragons painting is in Shadow Keep, in Scadu Altus. Enter through the front entrance and reach the courtyard with burning boats. Take the ladder on the east side down, then go behind the waterfall.
Reach the painter
This solution requires substantial progress through Jagged Peak. Enter the area through Dragon’s Pit, south of Pillar-Path Waypoint in Gravesite Plain. Follow the road past the headless dragon statues to Dragon’s Pit Terminus, then head east. Pass the Jagged Peak Drake, defeat the two additional Jagged Peak Drakes and Ancient Dragon Senessax, and continue to Jagged Peak Mountainside.
From Jagged Peak Mountainside, travel west along the cliff. Use the Spiritspring to jump to the rocky outcrop by the dragon corpse—not the higher ledge. The storm clears at the outcrop, where the painter is nearby. Approach the spirit to receive Rock Heart, which transforms the player into a humanoid dragon until death and buffs Dragon Communion incantations while in that form.
