Elden Ring Version 1.12 added support for Shadow of the Erdtree and introduced practical changes to inventory, Summoning Pools, map controls, and the Elden Beast fight. The update was separate from the expansion: the patch added its general features, while playing the expansion requires the base game and the separately sold add-on.
What Elden Ring update 1.12 added
Bandai Namco published the Version 1.12 notes on June 19, 2024, and corrected them on June 24 to address errors and missing information. They list PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam as target platforms. The patch notes identify App Ver. 1.12 and Regulation Ver. 1.12.1; online play requires the update. These are the identifiers for this historical patch, not a statement of the version currently served by the game. Bandai Namco’s Version 1.12 notes

Everyday quality-of-life changes
- Five new hairstyles: Select them during character creation, at the Clouded Mirror Stand, or through Rennala’s Rebirth feature.
- Summoning Pool controls: The new Map Functions Menu lets you enable or disable individual pools. Active pools carry over into New Game Plus. The patch notes also describe special Small Golden Effigy behavior near Mohgwyn Palace, distinguishing “Include Distant Areas” from “Nearby Only.”
- Clearer inventory tracking: Newly obtained items receive an exclamation mark, and a Recent Items tab makes them easier to find. Item-display settings are available in the system menu’s Display tab.
- Spectral steed in the Elden Beast battle: The patch lets you summon your spectral steed during the fight.
- Colosseum and language updates: Crafted consumables used during a Colosseum battle are replenished when the session ends, and Arabic language support was added.
Steam keyboard and mouse settings
Steam players gained a mouse lock-on change threshold, a setting for cursor movement behavior on the map, and key assignments for opening the map. These are input-setting options; the update does not require new PC hardware.
Patch 1.12 is not the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion
Version 1.12 added expansion support, but the expansion itself is separate content. Bandai Namco announced Shadow of the Erdtree availability on June 21, 2024, describing a new adventure in the Realm of Shadow with new bosses, spells, abilities, weapons, and armor. The publisher’s announcement called Elden Ring a “25-million-unit best seller” at that time; that is a June 2024 figure, not a current sales total. Bandai Namco’s expansion announcement

The patch notes divide balance changes by where they apply. That distinction matters: the PvP-exclusive adjustments do not affect single-player or cooperative play, while the general balance adjustments affect both PvE and PvP. The notes cover many specific weapons, skills, incantations, mechanics, and fixes; they do not support describing the entire patch as a blanket buff or nerf.
PvP-exclusive adjustments
This section covers changes to weapon classes, skills, and incantations, including adjustments to poise damage, damage, status buildup, and particular skill effects. These are explicitly limited to PvP, rather than single-player or cooperative play.
General adjustments affecting PvE and PvP
Examples include turning speed for dual-wielded Heavy Thrusting Swords; Dexterity scaling for corresponding Ashes of War affinities; guard stamina, weapon attack speed, and charged damage; and changes involving bows, torches, crafted ammunition, Mohg’s Great Rune, Malenia’s Great Rune, Terra Magica, and the Cerulean Hidden Tear. The notes also list individual armament and skill adjustments and a substantial set of bug fixes. Consult the full official notes for the specific entries and their directions rather than inferring that every item in a category changed the same way.
Is update 1.12 the current Elden Ring version?
No current-version claim follows from the 1.12 notes. Bandai Namco later published Version 1.14 notes dated September 10, 2024, so 1.12 is not the latest version documented in these sources. They do not establish the live version as of October 8, 2026. Bandai Namco’s Version 1.14 notes
