Elon Musk reportedly reached the top of an unofficial Diablo IV Pit leaderboard in November 2024—but that was a dated community ranking, not an official measure of the game’s best player. Blizzard launched a separate official Tower leaderboard beta on January 12, 2026; the sources available do not establish Musk’s standing on it.
What did the 2024 Diablo IV leaderboard reports say?
Forbes placed Musk at No. 19, then No. 22
On November 6, 2024, Paul Tassi reported in Forbes that Musk ranked 19th in timed Pit 150 runs. An update to the article put him at No. 22. Those positions referred to a particular leaderboard for a difficult timed challenge, not a comprehensive ranking of every Diablo IV player. The article also noted that a Spiritborn Quill build appeared among the list’s top entries at the time.

Esports.net reported a No. 1 entry named “Resistance”
In a report published November 21 and updated November 23, 2024, Michael Hassall of Esports.net said an entry called “Resistance,” listed with a US location, had moved to No. 1 on an unofficial Pit leaderboard. The report identified the character as reportedly Musk and gave the run time as 1:59. “Reportedly” matters: the source does not show an official Blizzard confirmation that the character belonged to Musk.

Was Elon Musk really No. 1 in Diablo IV?
The careful answer is that a 2024 Esports.net report said an entry reportedly belonging to Musk reached No. 1 on an unofficial Pit leaderboard. Forbes had earlier reported him at No. 19, then No. 22, in timed Pit 150 runs. These are separate reported snapshots of a specific challenge and leaderboard—not proof that Musk was the best Diablo IV player overall.
#1 Best Overall
A player’s rank depends on which leaderboard is being discussed, what challenge it records, when the run took place, and how the entry’s identity was established. The Resistance attribution remains a report, rather than a Blizzard-confirmed identity.
How is Blizzard’s official Tower leaderboard different?
Blizzard opened the Tower and its official leaderboard beta on January 12, 2026, with patch 2.5.2, according to the announcement and patch notes. The Tower is a timed, multi-stage dungeon, distinct from the Pit challenge in the 2024 reports. Blizzard described the beta as a system that would continue to be iterated on, writing, “The Beta release of the Tower and Leaderboards is just the beginning.”

Official categories and displayed results
Blizzard’s announced leaderboard covers solo Barbarian, Necromancer, Sorcerer, Rogue, Druid, and Spiritborn runs, plus parties of two, three, or four. It separates Hardcore and Normal entries and offers filters for platform, friends, and clan. Listed results include rank, player name, tier completed, time, and date. A rank in one category is not interchangeable with a rank in another.

Blizzard announced multiple two-week leaderboard rounds during the season, with the schedule subject to change. Under the announced plan, the Tower and leaderboards would be unavailable between seasons. The January patch notes document beta tuning and include a January 28 fix for an issue viewing profiles of leaderboard entries with private profiles; that is evidence of an evolving official feature, not evidence of Musk’s rank.

Is Musk on the official Tower leaderboard now?
The available reports do not establish a current official Tower ranking for Musk, nor whether he is about to top a current round. A November 10, 2025 post on Blizzard’s Diablo IV forum asked whether he might reclaim a top spot on the forthcoming Tower leaderboard. That post is a player’s question, not confirmation of his identity on an earlier leaderboard or of a later result: the forum thread.
GameSpot reported in December 2025 that Blizzard had delayed the launch plan. Associate game director Zaven Haroutunian explained, “This is to make sure we have some stability with the season launch, and then when The Tower shows up, it’s online and people are ready to tackle it,” as quoted in GameSpot’s report. Blizzard subsequently announced the beta’s January 12, 2026 launch. Neither the delay coverage nor the launch announcement supplies a verified current Musk result.
