What is the Warlock in Diablo II: Resurrected?
The Warlock is a new playable class introduced in Reign of the Warlock, an update to Diablo II: Resurrected. Blizzard describes the class as a dark scholar who binds demons and turns them into instruments of destruction. Its three skill trees support distinct approaches: controlling or sacrificing demons, transforming weapons and applying hexes, or dealing damage with hellfire and void.

Blizzard’s announcement calls the Warlock “the first new playable class to Diablo II in 25 years.” That is Blizzard’s characterization of the time since the series’ last new playable class, not an independently measured statistic. Blizzard’s Reign of the Warlock announcement describes the class and update.
How do the three Warlock skill trees work?
Demonic Binding: summon, bind, or consume demons
Demonic Binding lets the Warlock summon Goatmen, Tainted, or Defilers. The class can also bind other demons it encounters. A bound demon can serve as an ally—or be consumed so the Warlock can draw on its life force and augment their own abilities. This tree centers on demon control and the choice between keeping a demon in play or using it to empower the Warlock.

Eldritch Weapons: manipulate weapons and inflict hexes
Eldritch skills focus on weapons and damaging hexes. The Warlock can create or throw weapon duplicates, and Blizzard highlights a distinctive passive: the class can wield a two-handed weapon in one hand while also equipping an off-hand item. This gives the tree a weapon-focused identity rather than relying only on summoned demons or elemental attacks.
Chaos: attack with hellfire and void
Chaos skills use hellfire and void effects. Blizzard names Miasma, Apocalypse, and Abyss abilities among the tree’s options. Choose this direction for a Warlock built around destructive magical attacks rather than demon management or weapon manipulation.

What else comes with Reign of the Warlock?
The update adds systems and endgame changes alongside the class. Its listed features include:
- Terror Zone changes: Players can choose which Act is terrorized, and the rotation changes every 30 minutes.
- Colossal Ancients: Terrorized Act bosses can drop statues used to open this encounter.
- Warlock gear: Additions include Grimoires, daggers with Warlock skill modifiers, sets, unique items, and runewords.
- Chronicle: A collection tracker for items.
- Loot filter: A built-in option for filtering drops.
- Stash improvements: Dedicated tabs for materials, gems, runes, and consumables.
Blizzard’s announced DLC bundle also includes two stash tabs and two character slots, in addition to the expansion. Those purchaser bonuses are separate from the update’s broader stash changes.

How do you unlock the Warlock?
Access depends on whether you already own the base game. Blizzard’s announcement lists these paths:
- Already own Diablo II: Resurrected: Purchase the Reign of the Warlock DLC.
- New to the game: The Infernal Edition includes both the base game and the DLC.
- Xbox Game Pass: The listed Game Pass access includes the base game, but not Reign of the Warlock; Game Pass alone therefore does not unlock the Warlock.
Blizzard’s page says Steam players can start with the Infernal Edition. It does not provide a complete regional price table, so check the relevant platform store for current local availability and pricing. The announced DLC bundle includes two stash tabs, two character slots, and cross-game items for Diablo IV and World of Warcraft; bundle contents and access may be platform-specific, so confirm the listing before buying. What is the character-transfer deadline?
In a forum notice dated October 6, 2026, Blizzard said eligible Expansion characters can be transferred into the Reign of the Warlock era only before November 16, 2026. Beginning November 16, those transfers will no longer be possible. Blizzard said the change is intended to close a route for items obtained through automated farming to enter that era. If you plan to transfer an eligible character, check Blizzard’s transfer notice for the applicable details and act before the stated cutoff.
