That wording refers to a timed run in a specific activity—not an independently confirmed title as the world’s best Diablo IV player. The record claim and whether the run was ultimately accepted by a leaderboard are separate questions.
What did Musk clear, and what was reported?
The report concerned a timed run in Diablo IV’s Pit, a tiered endgame activity. Notebookcheck published its account on November 22, 2024, describing Musk’s run as a speedrun record and noting accusations that bugs may have been exploited. The article was updated on February 18, 2026. Those allegations are not proof that Musk used an exploit, and the reviewed sources do not establish whether the specific run was later accepted or removed. Notebookcheck’s report

Forbes provided a snapshot of the Pit 150 timed-run standings in November 2024: Musk was reported at No. 19, with the article later updated to say he had fallen to No. 22. Forbes also reported a 1:59 clear by leader Resistance and 2:11 by the runner-up at the time. These are historical figures from Forbes’s 2024 coverage, not current standings or a like-for-like comparison with Musk’s run. Forbes’s ranking coverage
Was it an official Diablo IV world record?
The available evidence supports saying that coverage called the run a record. It does not establish that Blizzard formally recognized it as a world record. Helltides.com describes its Pit rankings as crowdsourced from player submissions and requires video review; its policy says runs using bugs that Blizzard has patched may be removed. That makes it a community leaderboard with its own rules, not evidence of an official Blizzard ranking. Helltides.com’s Pit leaderboard and policy

The distinction matters: a leaderboard position depends on the activity, tier, timing method, season, build, submission evidence, and rules in force. A reported run or rank is not, by itself, proof of a universally recognized record. The sources reviewed do not settle the validation status of Musk’s particular run.
What was happening in Diablo IV at the time?
Patch context helps date the story but does not establish a connection to Musk’s performance. Blizzard expanded the Pit to 150 tiers in patch 2.0.3c. Its November 20, 2024, patch 2.0.5a notes also say a PC issue was fixed in which the Elixir of Antivenin granted significantly more health than intended. The existence of that fix does not show that Musk used that elixir or any exploit. Blizzard’s patch notes

Blizzard later discussed The Tower, a separate system with leaderboards categorized by class and party size and divided between Normal and Hardcore. The Tower’s later leaderboard plans should not be conflated with the community Pit rankings discussed in the 2024 coverage. Blizzard’s Tower leaderboard announcement

Musk had streamed Diablo IV on X earlier, in October 2023, attempting a Tier 99 Nightmare Dungeon speedrun, according to GAME Watch. That was a different activity and predates the November 2024 Pit story; it is not evidence for or against the later record claim. GAME Watch’s 2023 report
