To complete Emotional Rescue in Disney Dreamlight Valley, recover the memory outside the Inside Out Realm, cook any dish, photograph a Night Thorn, and then help Joy repair the emotion console. Inside the Headquarters, collect the console parts, solve two flipper puzzles, equip both Mind Worker safety items, and take the elevator down to Long Term Memory. The steps below follow a walkthrough published and updated on 20 August 2025; Gameloft’s update notes describe the quest’s story context but do not provide these puzzle instructions.
Start Emotional Rescue at the Inside Out Realm door
- Pick up the fallen memory. Go to Dream Castle and interact with the Inside Out Realm door. Pick up the memory orb that falls out, then speak with Merlin by the door.
- Cook any dish. Use a cooking station in the Valley to make a meal. The walkthrough says any dish will do; Aurora’s Cake is only its example.
- Photograph a Night Thorn. Find a Night Thorn in the Valley, equip the Phone from the Royal Tool wheel, and take a picture that includes the thorn.
- Return to the Realm door. Interact with it to transfer the repaired memory and enter the Inside Out Realm.
Gameloft announced the free Emotional Rescue update for 20 August 2025, describing its story as meeting Joy and Sadness in the Headquarters, finding missing Long Term Memory parts, and creating a Dream Production for Riley. The specific task sequence here comes from Kacee Fay’s Destructoid walkthrough, rather than from developer instructions.
Find the parts to repair Joy’s emotion console
Inside the Headquarters, talk to Joy near the console in the middle of the room. Find the listed parts, craft Broken Caution Sliders at the crafting station, then return to the console and transfer the parts.

Solve the first memory-wall flipper puzzle
At the first memory wall, use the controls in this order:

- Use the left red control to lower the green flipper.
- Use the right control to raise the green and red flippers.
Solve the second memory-wall flipper puzzle
Follow Joy to the memory wall near the entrance. This wall uses a different sequence:
- Use the left control to lower the blue flipper and raise the green flipper.
- Use the right control to lower the red and green flippers.
Find and equip the Mind Worker safety gear
Go through the tunnel near the back of the room and turn right just before the ramp. Interact with the colorful wall to open hidden storage. Open both clothing bags from your inventory and equip both items before proceeding.

Use the elevator to reach Long Term Memory
Return to Joy by the repaired console and interact with the sparkling spot to activate the elevator. Going down to Long Term Memory ends Emotional Rescue and starts the following quest, which continues the search for Sadness.
