Start by checking for a No Man’s Sky update and current PS5 system software. Hello Games’ October 5, 2026 Cosmos 7.06 patch notes say the update fixes a rare PS5 loading-screen crash—but also say it was live on Steam and would reach other platforms as soon as possible. Check the version installed on your console rather than assuming PS5 has that fix.
Try these fixes in order
- Check for updates. Highlight No Man’s Sky on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update. Also install any available PS5 system software update.
- Match the crash to the latest patch notes. If the game crashes on a loading screen, check whether your console has the version that includes the fix described in Cosmos 7.06. The notes confirm availability on Steam and say other platforms would receive it as soon as possible; they do not confirm when the PS5 rollout completes.
- Test display and performance settings. Switch between Performance and Fidelity modes. You can also temporarily turn off VRR and HDR under the PS5’s Screen and Video settings, then see whether the crash recurs. These are general PS5 troubleshooting tests, not guaranteed No Man’s Sky-specific fixes; the general PS5 crash guidance recommends them.
- Reload a manual save if you can enter the game. Make a manual save, then load it and check whether the problem continues. If the game crashes before you can reach a point where you can save, skip this step.
- Reinstall the game if crashes persist. Reinstalling is another step in the general PS5 crash guidance. It is more disruptive than changing settings, so try the reversible checks first.
Check which version and crash you have
“No Man’s Sky crashing” can describe different problems. Note whether it fails at launch, during a loading screen, while exploring, or when connecting to multiplayer. Also check whether you are running the PS5 or PS4 version on the console, and whether other games crash. These details help distinguish a game-specific problem from a possible console issue; they do not identify the cause on their own.
Hello Games’ recent notes document several separate PS5-related fixes: Cosmos 7.01 (September 10, 2026) lists a hang affecting PS5 players using the PS4 version; Cosmos 7.02 (September 15) lists a fixed PS5 streaming crash; Cosmos 7.05 (September 30) includes a significant PS5 memory optimization; and Cosmos 7.06 (October 5) lists the rare loading-screen crash fix. These notes show that particular issues have been addressed; they do not establish that one of them explains your crash or that every platform has received each update.
Use PS5 Safe Mode carefully
If ordinary troubleshooting has not helped, consult PlayStation’s Safe Mode guide and follow its current instructions. The guide describes Repair Console Storage as an option that does not erase data, and distinguishes it from reset options that delete user data. Read the description of the option you select; back up saved data before choosing any destructive reset.

Report the problem with useful details
If the issue continues, submit a report through Hello Games’ issue-reporting page. Include a clear description and what you were doing when the crash happened. Record the error code, crash stage, whether you use the PS5 or PS4 game version, and whether other games are affected. Contact PlayStation Support if several games crash or the console displays an overheating warning.
