ep0icd0.dll is an Epson WIA imaging-driver component, not a general Windows DLL or Visual C++ runtime. When Windows says it is missing, the safest fix is usually to repair or reinstall the Epson scanner or multifunction-printer package that originally installed it.

What the error messages mean
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because ep0icd0.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because ep0icd0.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading ep0icd0.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library ep0icd0.dll.”
- “ep0icd0.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording tells you how the loading process failed, but not always why.
A missing-file message usually means the Epson package is incomplete, removed, quarantined, or installed for the wrong architecture. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by ep0icd0.dll is missing. An entry-point error usually indicates an incompatible or mismatched file rather than a simple absence.
If the dialog appears only when opening Epson Scan, Windows Scan, or a program that communicates with your Epson device, repair the Epson software first. If it appears when launching an unrelated application, identify that application before assuming Epson is the cause.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Epson package
This is the most likely solution.
1. Identify the Epson model
Look at the label on the scanner or printer. You need the complete model name, including a series number where applicable.
You can also check Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, Printers, and, if present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Note the Epson device name.
- Right-click the device and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab to record the provider and existing driver details.
If the device has a yellow warning icon, Windows is already indicating a driver problem.
2. Download the model-specific package
Open Epson’s official support or Download Center page manually, search for the exact model, and select your installed Windows edition and system architecture.

The package may also include Epson Event Manager or other device utilities. Do not substitute a package for a similar-looking Epson model.

3. Remove the damaged installation if necessary
If Epson provides an uninstaller:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Search for the Epson scanning software.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
If the Epson installer specifically instructs you to remove the old driver, follow that instruction. Do not manually delete folders from C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository.
4. Install the replacement
- Close Epson Scan and other scanning applications.
- Right-click the downloaded Epson installer.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- Restart Windows when installation finishes.
- Power-cycle the scanner or multifunction printer.
- Open Epson Scan, Windows Scan, or the application that produced the error.
The repair worked if the program opens without the DLL message and the device can preview or scan. If the installer cannot find the device, connect it only when requested and check the cable, network connection, or wireless setup.

A 32-bit application needs compatible 32-bit components even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Installing an unrelated 64-bit DLL does not satisfy that dependency.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose About.
- Read System type.
Return to the Epson product page and select the matching Windows architecture when separate downloads are offered.
Older Epson scanners may have software designed for earlier Windows releases rather than a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 package. If the model has no current driver, download the newest package Epson provides for that model and review its compatibility notes. Installation may succeed while some functions remain limited.
If the error started after replacing Windows or moving from a 32-bit application to a 64-bit application, reinstall the Epson software rather than copying a DLL from another computer.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components after an update
Use this path when the problem began after a failed Windows update, interrupted upgrade, or broader system corruption.
First install pending updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run these commands separately:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish. Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC.

Restart after both commands complete. Test the Epson software again.
If DISM reports that the restore operation completed successfully and SFC reports that corrupted files were repaired, test the scanner. If SFC reports no integrity violations but the DLL error remains, that does not prove the Epson package is healthy. SFC may not repair a missing third-party driver installation.

Repeating repair commands without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow and confusing. Fix 4: Check Device Manager and reinstall the device
A broken device registration can prevent Windows from loading the correct WIA files.
- Right-click Start.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, and Printers.
- Right-click the Epson device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers to remove the driver package, do so only when you intend to reinstall the official Epson package immediately.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the Epson driver downloaded for the exact model.
- Reconnect or power-cycle the device.
Do not remove random entries from Driver Store. A folder containing wiaep002.inf is evidence of a driver-package installation, not a standalone replacement location.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine a damaged, altered, or suspicious DLL.

- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving the Epson installation or
ep0icd0.dll.
Do not restore the file solely because its name matches the error. Confirm that it came from the Epson package you installed, run a full security scan, and prefer reinstalling the complete official package. A complete installation restores related files, permissions, and architecture-specific components together.
If the DLL was found in an unexpected application folder, investigate that application before allowing it.
Fix 6: Repair the application that reports the error
The program named in the dialog matters.
If Epson Scan fails, repair or reinstall Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2. If Windows Scan fails, confirm that the Epson device and WIA driver appear correctly in Device Manager. If a legacy third-party program fails, use its own repair or reinstall option after repairing the Epson driver.

For an application repair:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Select the affected program.
- Open its advanced options if available.
- Choose Repair.
- If Repair does not help, choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings.
- Reinstall the program from its official installer if necessary.
There is no verified basis for assuming that a particular game requires ep0icd0.dll. If a game or unrelated program names it, treat that as a dependency investigation rather than proof that the game installed the Epson component.
What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an incorrect architecture, or a mismatched version. Copying the file into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application folder often leaves the real driver problem unresolved.
The safe source is Epson’s official product page for the exact scanner or multifunction-printer model. Windows Update may also provide a compatible driver, but a model-specific Epson package is preferable when available.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as a guess
ep0icd0.dll is associated with Epson WIA imaging support. Installing Visual C++ Redistributable packages, DirectX, or optional .NET components is not a justified first-line repair unless the error also names a separate missing runtime.
Do not register it with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering DLL or ActiveX components that expose a registration entry point. This Epson driver DLL is not normally repaired that way.

If you run a command such as:
regsvr32 ep0icd0.dll
and receive “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found,” that indicates registration is inappropriate. Do not treat the message as another missing-file problem.
Do not enable random Windows Features
There is no Windows Feature that universally restores ep0icd0.dll. Do not enable legacy components simply because a DLL error mentions a scanner. Repair the Epson package and the device connection first.
If the error still appears
Check these points in order:
- Confirm the Epson model and install its exact package again.
- Verify that the package matches your Windows architecture.
- Check whether antivirus removed part of the installation.
- Test both Epson Scan and Windows Scan.
- Run DISM followed by SFC if the issue began after an update.
- Repair the third-party application named in the error.
- Consider System Restore only if the failure clearly began after a recent change and a suitable restore point exists.
If the Epson product is discontinued and Epson provides no compatible current driver, installation may remain limited on Windows 10 or Windows 11. In that case, use the newest official package available for the model and confirm whether the device appears in Device Manager without a warning icon.

FAQ
Is ep0icd0.dll a Windows file?
It is an Epson WIA imaging component. It may be delivered through an older Windows driver package, but it is not a general-purpose core Windows DLL.
Is it part of Visual C++?
No. Installing Visual C++ Redistributable is not the normal solution.
Should I copy it from another computer?
No. The other computer may have a different Epson model, architecture, or driver version. Reinstall the complete package instead.
