If ep0lvrab.dll was not found while a program starts, identify the Epson printer connected to that PC and reinstall its official driver before trying generic Windows repairs.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing files, record:
- The complete error text, such as “ep0lvrab.dll was not found,” “cannot find ep0lvrab.dll,” or “the program cannot start.”
- The program that displays the message.
- Whether it appears during startup, printing, opening printer properties, or launching an Epson utility.
- The Epson printer model previously or currently installed.
- Whether the PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Whether the system is x86, x64, or ARM-based.
- The file path shown by the error, if Windows provides one.
To check the system type in Windows 11, open Settings > System > About and read System type. In Windows 10, open Settings > System > About and check the same field.
Do not assume that a file inside C:WindowsSystem32 is a Microsoft component. Third-party printer-driver files can be stored in Windows driver locations, including a path under:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository
The exact folder depends on the Epson model and installed package.

What ep0lvrab.dll is
Public file metadata identifies EP0LVRAB.DLL as:
- Description: EPSON Printer Driver

- Category: Printer driver component
It is not established as an inbox Windows file, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. A printer driver is normally installed as part of a larger package containing an INF file, catalog, driver files, and supporting components. Replacing one DLL alone can leave that package incomplete.
The exact Epson printer models that use this filename are not identified by authoritative public Epson documentation. Several Epson printers or Epson software packages may have installed similarly named components, so installing a random Epson driver may not repair the problem.
Public file indexes also report conflicting architecture and version information. Treat those listings as clues, not as a universal specification. Verify the correct architecture and package through the printer model, Windows installation, and official Epson download.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer driver
This is the most likely solution when the error appears during printing, when opening printer properties, or when starting Epson software.

Check the printer’s front panel, rear label, original packaging, purchase records, or the Windows printer list.
In Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Review the installed printers.
In Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Review the listed printers.
Write down the complete Epson model name. Similar-looking model names can use different packages.
2. Remove the damaged Epson software
If the Epson package is listed in installed applications:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for Epson.
- Remove the printer driver, Epson printer utility, or Epson software associated with the affected model.
- Restart Windows.
You can also use the classic interface:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the relevant Epson software.
- Choose Uninstall.
Do not remove Epson software for another printer unless you have confirmed it is no longer needed.

3. Remove the old printer entry
After uninstalling the software:
- Return to Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Epson printer.
- Choose Remove or Remove device.
- Confirm the removal.
If Windows refuses to remove it, restart the PC and try again. Do not manually delete random files from DriverStore. Windows protects that location because other devices may depend on its contents.
4. Download the correct package
Open Epson’s official printer support portal and search for the exact model. Select the Windows version and architecture that match the affected computer.

Do not choose a package for a similar model. If the download page provides separate x86 and x64 files, select the one matching System type in Settings > System > About.

5. Install and test
- Run the Epson installer.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Follow the connection instructions.
- Connect the printer only when the installer requests it if the setup uses USB.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Open the printer’s settings.
- Print a test page.
The repair worked if the original program opens without the DLL message and the printer appears as ready. If the same error remains, confirm the model and architecture again. A wrong Epson package can install successfully while leaving the original dependency unresolved.
Manually comparing printer models, Windows builds, and driver packages can involve hunting through many downloads. Fix 2: Let Windows Update install the printer driver
Windows Update is Microsoft’s recommended first source for printer drivers when it offers a compatible package.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Open Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if available.
- Select the Epson printer driver.
- Choose Download and install.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Open View optional updates if that link appears.
- Install the Epson printer driver if listed.
- Restart the PC.
- Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Choose Add a printer or scanner.
If Windows Update finds the printer but the error continues, remove the existing Epson printer and add it again after restarting. If no suitable driver is offered, use the exact model package from Epson instead.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a printer component after an update or security scan. This is more likely when the error began immediately after a Windows Security notification.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry naming
EP0LVRAB.DLL, Epson software, or the printer package.
Do not restore the file automatically. If the entry is present, first download a fresh, signed Epson package from the official Epson support page and reinstall it. A clean package is preferable to restoring an old file that may already be incomplete.
Only restore or allow a quarantined file when you have confirmed that it belongs to the Epson installation and the detection is a false positive. If the file is in an unexpected folder, has no valid Epson publisher information, or appeared after an untrusted download, leave it quarantined and run a full Windows Security scan.

The repair worked when the Epson package reinstalls without another detection and the printer utility or affected program starts normally.
Fix 4: Repair the printer installation after Windows Update
A Windows update can leave an older printer package inconsistent, especially when the printer was installed many years earlier.
Use this sequence:
- Disconnect the printer from USB if it is connected.
- Remove the Epson printer from Printers & scanners.
- Uninstall the related Epson software from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Restart again.
- Install the current Epson package for the exact model.
- Reconnect the printer when prompted.
- Print a test page.
If the Epson installer itself fails, note the complete message and check whether it names another missing dependency. Do not copy ep0lvrab.dll into System32, SysWOW64, or the application folder as a workaround.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker are useful when several unrelated Windows features are failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the Epson installer cannot run because Windows components are corrupted. They are not the normal first fix for a missing third-party Epson driver file.

Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press the Windows key.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
Run DISM first:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
The SFC scan can report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or could not repair some files.
Restart Windows after both commands complete. Then reinstall the Epson driver and test the printer.
If DISM or SFC reports errors, repeat the commands only as directed by the resulting message or Microsoft recovery guidance. These commands repair Windows components and protected system files. They may not restore EP0LVRAB.DLL when the Epson driver package itself has been removed.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent driver change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after installing an Epson driver, Windows update, or other software and a restore point exists.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be removed or rolled back.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs while preserving personal files. After it finishes, test the program and printer.
If no restore point exists, or the problem survives the rollback, return to the exact Epson driver installation rather than trying isolated DLL replacements.

Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a DllRegisterServer entry point, commonly registration-based COM components. There is no reliable public evidence that this Epson printer-driver component is a self-registering DLL.
Running this command can produce an error similar to:
The module was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Do not use commands such as these unless Epson’s installer documentation specifically requires them:
regsvr32 ep0lvrab.dll
regsvr32 /u ep0lvrab.dll
A printer driver should normally be installed through its INF-based package or Windows printer setup. Registration attempts do not repair a missing package, restore related files, or select the correct printer model.

Do not download the DLL separately
Avoid DLL download sites and isolated copies of ep0lvrab.dll. A downloaded file can have the wrong architecture, belong to a different Epson package, be incomplete, or contain unwanted code. It also does not restore the INF file, catalog, configuration, services, and supporting files that make up a printer-driver package.
Use these safe sources instead:
- Windows Update
- Settings > Printers & scanners > Add device
- The official Epson support page for the exact printer model
- Original Epson installation media, if it matches the installed Windows system
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET solely because this DLL is missing. There is no evidence that those runtime packages provide ep0lvrab.dll.
What if the Epson printer is obsolete?
If the printer is no longer used, restoring the DLL is unnecessary.
- Remove the printer from Printers & scanners.
- Uninstall Epson software from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether the error has disappeared.
If an old program still displays the message, that program may be looking for a private Epson component. Repair or uninstall the old Epson utility or the application that launches the message. Do not delete arbitrary files from the Windows Driver Store.
When to investigate malware
A missing-DLL message alone does not prove malware. Investigate further if:
- The file is outside an expected Epson driver location.
- The file has no valid Epson publisher information.
- The error began after downloading a supposed DLL fix.
- Windows Security reports a detection.
- An unrelated program is trying to load the file.
Run a full scan in Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options. If malware is detected, follow Windows Security’s removal instructions and reinstall the Epson package afterward.
