ep0lxfpm.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a normal Windows system DLL. If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, the safest fix is to rebuild the Epson printer installation rather than download a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with Epson Universal Printing System XPS and the prnepcl2.inf driver package. Available file records identify it as a 32-bit component, commonly reported as version 0.4.1.0; the exact path, size, and package revision can vary by printer model and Windows driver package.

Errors caused by ep0lxfpm.dll
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because ep0lxfpm.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting ep0lxfpm.dll.”
- “Error loading ep0lxfpm.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because ep0lxfpm.dll was not found.”
- “ep0lxfpm.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages can appear when Windows starts a print-related component, when an application sends a document to an Epson printer, or when Windows loads an old Epson queue or driver. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency of the DLL is missing, not necessarily that the named file alone has disappeared.
There is no reliable evidence that this file belongs to Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a game, or the protected Windows core. Installing those components is not the normal repair.

Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine first
Security software can remove a legitimate driver file after a detection or false positive. Check this before repeatedly reinstalling the printer.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Look for an event mentioning
ep0lxfpm.dll, Epson, or a printer-driver package. - Open the event and review its location and detection details.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- The file came from an Epson driver installation.
- Its location is within an Epson printer package or Windows Driver Store path.
- You recognize the printer and driver involved.
- Windows Security identifies the event as a removal or quarantine rather than a confirmed threat.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again. Do not allow an unknown copy merely because its filename matches. If the file was removed, reinstall the complete Epson driver package instead of restoring a loose DLL.

Fix 2: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer
This is the most likely solution because the DLL normally belongs to the printer-driver package.
Remove the existing printer
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the Epson printer associated with the error.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
If several Epson printers are listed, remove only the queue producing the error. A stale queue can continue calling an incomplete driver even after the physical printer is disconnected.
Install the correct Epson package
- Identify the exact printer model from the printer label or the existing printer entry.
- Open Epson’s official Support or Download Center page.
- Search for that model.
- Select your Windows version and architecture when prompted.
- Prefer the model-specific printer driver or the listed Epson printer package.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Connect the printer when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup completes.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and confirm that the printer has returned.
- Print a test page.
The correct package depends on the Epson model and Windows version. A universal package may work for multiple models, but do not assume that every current Epson Universal Print Driver contains this legacy DLL.
If printing works and the error no longer appears after restart, the driver package has been restored correctly. Do not copy the DLL into another folder.

Fix 3: Install pending Windows updates
Windows Update can repair printer-driver delivery and complete a driver migration that stopped halfway.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates > Driver updates, if that section is present.
- Install a relevant Epson or printer driver update.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer again.
If Windows Update installs a generic driver but the error continues, remove the printer again and install the package from the exact Epson model-support page.
Fix 4: Update the printer through Device Manager
Device Manager can identify a damaged or incomplete printer entry, although it may not provide the complete Epson software package.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers and Print queues.
- Look for the Epson printer, an unknown device, or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant entry and select Properties.
- Open the General tab and read the device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If Device Manager reports that the best driver is already installed but ep0lxfpm.dll is still missing, use the complete Epson installer instead. Device Manager does not always restore the vendor’s supporting files, utilities, or print-monitor components.

You can also select Uninstall device from the device’s context menu, restart Windows, and then reinstall the Epson package. Do not select options for deleting unrelated printer drivers unless you have identified the correct package.
Fix 5: Restart the Print Spooler and clear a stale queue
A partially removed queue can keep attempting to load an old Epson component.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Try printing again.
If the error remains:
- In Services, right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
%WINDIR%System32spoolPRINTERSand press Enter. - Delete only the files inside that folder, not the folder itself.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Start.
- Reinstall the Epson printer.
Only use this procedure when no documents need to remain in the print queue. If the error appears at every boot and no Epson printer is installed, check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for obsolete Epson software and remove it only after confirming that it is no longer needed.

ep0lxfpm.dll appears to belong to Epson’s driver ecosystem, so SFC and DISM are not the primary repair. Use them when Windows shows other corruption symptoms, built-in tools fail, or multiple unrelated system components are damaged.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer and the application that reported the error.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component store used by SFC. If both commands complete successfully but the Epson error remains, reinstall the Epson driver. These commands do not rebuild a missing third-party printer package.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent driver change
Use System Restore when the problem began immediately after a printer-driver update, Windows update, or software installation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Let Windows restart.
System Restore does not replace the need for a current Epson driver. After the rollback, install the correct Epson package if Windows still shows the printer incorrectly.
Why a 32-bit DLL can appear on 64-bit Windows
A 64-bit Windows installation can legitimately use a 32-bit Epson printer component. The operating system bitness and the driver component’s bitness do not always match because older printer software may include 32-bit helper processes, print monitors, or compatibility components.
Do not decide that a file is wrong solely because it is 32-bit. Likewise, do not replace it with a 64-bit DLL. The correct architecture is determined by the Epson driver package and the component that loads it.

Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites may provide malware, an incompatible version, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of the Epson package. A copied DLL can also leave the driver’s configuration, dependencies, and print-monitor entries damaged.

Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Do not place ep0lxfpm.dll manually in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An unrelated application folder
The file belongs to a package-managed printer installation, commonly within the Driver Store. Installing the complete package lets Windows place and register its files correctly.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide the registration entry point expected by that tool. It is not a missing-file repair command, and there is no evidence that ep0lxfpm.dll should be manually registered.
Running commands such as these is unlikely to solve the underlying driver problem:
regsvr32 ep0lxfpm.dll
If the DLL is missing, the command cannot load it. If it exists but is not a self-registering component, registration will fail or be irrelevant.
Do not enable random Windows Features
Turning on .NET, legacy components, or other Windows Features is not a supported solution for this Epson-specific DLL. Use Windows Features only when a separate application explicitly identifies a required feature.
FAQ
Is ep0lxfpm.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence associates it with Epson printer software and the Epson prnepcl2.inf driver package. It should not normally be treated as a Windows core file.
Is it malware?
The filename alone cannot prove that. A copy inside an Epson driver package or Driver Store may be legitimate. A copy found in a temporary, download, startup, or unrelated application folder deserves investigation with Microsoft Defender.

Which Epson printer model causes the error?
There is no reliable evidence that one model universally triggers it. The affected model depends on the Epson package installed on that computer.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as the normal fix. The available evidence points to an Epson printer-driver installation problem, not a missing runtime.
Why does the message appear when no printer is connected?
Windows may still have an old Epson queue, startup task, service, or partially removed driver. Remove the obsolete printer and Epson software after confirming that it is no longer needed.
What should I provide if the error continues?
Record the exact error text, Windows version and build, Epson model, the path shown in the message, the time of the last driver or Windows update, and whether antivirus quarantined the file. That information is more useful than repeatedly replacing the DLL.
