Public archives disagree about the exact build, size, architecture, and installation path. Some records describe a 32-bit copy, while archived Epson packages place similarly named files in Amd64 driver directories. Treat those details as package-specific rather than as a universal specification.

Check the printer label, the printer casing, or Windows:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Epson model.
If the printer is not listed, check Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Devices and Printers. Also consider old printers that were removed but left software behind.
2. Remove the damaged Epson installation
First disconnect the printer if the Epson installer previously required that.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Epson.
- Remove the Epson printer software, scanner utilities, or model-specific packages related to the affected printer.
- Return to Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Epson printer and choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.

3. Download the exact package from Epson
Go to Epson’s official Support or Download Center website. Select:
- The exact printer model
- Your region
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- The matching system architecture
Download the full printer driver or printer software package, not an isolated DLL.
Run the installer as an administrator if necessary:

- Right-click the downloaded Epson installer.
- Select Show more options → Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup instructions.
- Connect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after setup completes.
4. Confirm the repair
Print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Open Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the original popup no longer appears. If the error remains, record the full path shown in the message. A startup utility may still be calling an old package.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
EP0NH44L.DLL, Epson software, or the printer installer. - Expand the entry and read the detected path and threat details.
Do not restore the DLL solely because its name appears in the error. A malicious file can use the same filename.
If the file came from an official Epson installer and the detection is clearly a false positive, follow Windows Security’s controlled restore or allow procedure. Fix 3: Match the driver to Windows architecture

Check your Windows architecture:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System → About.
- Read System type.
Use the Epson package intended for that architecture. Windows printer packages can contain architecture-specific components, including x86, x64, and ARM64 variants. A legacy printer may not have a fully compatible package for the newest Windows release.
If the Epson model is old:
- Download the model-specific legacy driver from Epson.
- Right-click the installer and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Try compatibility mode only if Epson’s installer fails normally.
- Install the package and test printing.
Windows may also offer a compatible built-in printer driver through Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device → Add manually. This can restore basic printing, but model-specific Epson features may not be available.
Fix 4: Remove an orphaned Epson startup entry
If printing works and the error appears during sign-in, the active printer may be fine. An old Epson monitor, updater, or utility may be trying to load a deleted DLL.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Epson entries connected to a removed printer.
- Right-click an obsolete entry and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings → Apps → Startup. If the popup stops after disabling the orphaned utility, remove the related Epson software from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
Avoid deleting random registry entries. First identify the associated Epson program and uninstall it normally.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these tools when multiple printer drivers fail, Windows printing behaves broadly incorrectly, or other protected system files are also reporting corruption. They are secondary for this problem because SFC does not guarantee restoration of an Epson-owned driver DLL.
Open an elevated terminal:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run these commands separately:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish before starting the next one. Restart Windows afterward and test the printer.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired files or found no integrity violations. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the process after DISM completes and check the exact message. A clean SFC result does not rule out a damaged Epson installation.

- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove recently installed drivers and applications. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the Epson reinstall procedure instead.

On Windows 11, some systems also provide Settings → System → Recovery → Fix problems using Windows Update → Reinstall now. This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings where the option is available. It should not be the first response to an Epson-only error.
Why regsvr32 is usually wrong here
Do not treat EP0NH44L.DLL like an ActiveX control or generic application library.
regsvr32 works with DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver rendering or configuration component may not expose that function. Running:

can produce an error stating that the module loaded but the entry point was not found. It does not rebuild the Epson driver package, restore dependencies, or select the correct architecture.

Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong Epson build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A file with missing dependencies
- A modified or malicious file
