ep0nlmui.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a Windows runtime such as Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. If Windows says the file is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, reinstall the Epson driver for the exact printer model from Epson Support rather than downloading the DLL separately.
What this file actually does
EP0NLMUI.DLL is associated with Epson printer software from SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION. It is used by an Epson driver package or one of its supporting utilities, so the program named in the error may be an Epson installer, printer utility, startup component, or another process loading the driver.
The filename alone cannot identify the exact Epson printer. Public file metadata associates it with an Epson printer driver, but it does not establish which model or current driver package contains it.
It is also not verified as a Windows core component. Do not treat it like a missing system runtime and do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Some public indexes describe this file as 32-bit and list historical file metadata, but those details are not a universal requirement for every Epson package. The driver offered for your printer and Windows version is the authority.
A message saying “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that ep0nlmui.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load a dependency required by it.
Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely explanation | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Error appears when Windows starts | An old Epson utility or startup entry is still loading | Remove obsolete Epson software or reinstall the printer package |
| Error appears while printing | Damaged, incomplete, or removed Epson driver | Remove the printer and reinstall its official driver |
| Error began after antivirus activity | The file may be quarantined | Check Windows Security Protection history |

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer driver
This is the most likely solution and the safest place to start.
- Find the printer model. Check the label on the printer, the printer’s control panel, an old invoice, or the existing Windows printer entry.
- Open Epson Support in your browser.
- Enter the exact printer model.
- Select Windows 10 or Windows 11 as appropriate.
- Download the printer driver or the full software package offered for that model.
- If the printer is still listed, open Settings.
- On Windows 11, select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. On Windows 10, select Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer and choose Remove.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Remove Epson applications associated with that printer. If the software is not listed there, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall it.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Epson installer you downloaded.
- Follow its connection instructions and restart again if requested.
If the installer offers Repair or Change instead of a fresh installation, try Repair first. Microsoft documents these options for programs whose installers support them: repair apps and programs in Windows.
The repair worked if the error no longer appears at startup and the printer prints a test page. To check, open Settings > Printers & scanners, select the Epson printer, choose Printer properties, and select Print Test Page.
If the installer cannot find the printer, temporarily connect it by USB if the model supports USB setup, confirm that the printer is powered on, and repeat the model-specific installation. Do not substitute a driver for a similar Epson model.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through driver versions and checking which device software is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the exact Epson package remains the definitive fix.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
If the file disappeared suddenly, antivirus quarantine is a possible cause.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open the Start menu and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving Epson software or
EP0NLMUI.DLL. - Open an entry to inspect its details.
- If the item clearly belongs to the Epson installation and came from the official Epson package, use the available Restore or Allow action.
- Restart Windows and test the printer.
Do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error. Confirm that it came from the Epson driver installation. If you are uncertain, leave it quarantined and reinstall the driver from Epson Support instead.
Microsoft explains that restoring a quarantined item can cause Defender to detect it again unless it is explicitly allowed: Protection history in Windows Security.
Do not disable antivirus protection to install a DLL downloaded from an unknown source.
Fix 3: Confirm the application that requests the file
The program named in the error helps distinguish an Epson problem from a stale reference.

Read the complete message and note the executable or utility mentioned. If it names an Epson monitor, status utility, installer, or printer-related process, the Epson package is the direct target.
If it appears while launching unrelated software, that software may be loading an old Epson component, or Windows may be reporting a dependency failure. Reinstalling the Epson driver is still the first repair, but remove obsolete Epson utilities if the printer is no longer used.

To inspect installed Epson software:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Epson.
- Uninstall utilities associated with printers you no longer own.
- Restart Windows.
- If the printer is still needed, install its current Epson package again.
You can also inspect startup entries under Settings > Apps > Startup. Disable an obsolete Epson startup item only after confirming that it belongs to an unused printer utility. Do not disable the Windows Print Spooler.
Fix 4: Check the driver architecture and installation path
A 32-bit Epson driver can operate on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility components. That does not mean a 64-bit program can load every 32-bit DLL.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings > System > About.
- Find System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
- Return to the Epson product page and select the driver specifically offered for that Windows version and printer.
Do not infer the correct location from System32 or SysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, those folders have special compatibility behavior, and an Epson driver may be installed under a managed Driver Store path.
To check whether Windows still has an Epson driver package:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Epson device.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Driver tab for the provider, date, and version.
- If the device has a warning icon, choose Uninstall device. If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the current Epson installer again.
Do not manually replace files inside C:WindowsSystem32DriverStore. Windows manages that location, and manual changes can interfere with driver servicing and signature validation.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when other system errors are present
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself is damaged, but they are not substitutes for reinstalling an Epson printer driver. Use them when you also see broken Windows features, update failures, unexplained system-file errors, or several unrelated programs failing.

- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Epson driver if the DLL error remains.
DISM repairs the Windows component image, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Microsoft’s guidance is available for DISM and SFC repair and repairing a Windows image.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of finding corrupted components less repetitive by showing what its free scan detects; repair actions are handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the Epson program remains the definitive fix for an Epson-specific DLL.
A successful SFC scan does not prove that the Epson driver is healthy. SFC primarily repairs protected Windows files, not every third-party printer component.
Fix 6: Use Windows Features only for related Windows symptoms
There is no established reason to enable a random Windows feature for ep0nlmui.dll. Avoid changing Windows Features unless another error specifically identifies a missing Windows component.
If the Epson installer reports that a Windows printing feature is unavailable:
- Open Start and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open it as administrator if prompted.
- Enable only the feature named by the Epson installer or Windows message.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Epson installer again.
Do not enable legacy components simply because a generic DLL guide recommends them. EP0NLMUI.DLL is associated with Epson software, not a general Windows runtime.
Fix 7: Use System Restore only after a clear recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver installation, cleanup utility, Windows update, or security event and a suitable restore point exists.
- Search Start for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point dated before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not ordinary personal documents. Microsoft’s recovery guidance covers System Restore and other recovery options.

If the error began after an update, first check for a newer Epson driver. On supported Windows 11 systems, Microsoft also provides a Reinstall now option under Settings > System > Recovery that reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings.
Why you should not download ep0nlmui.dll separately
Random DLL download sites can provide the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, a modified file, or malware. Even a genuine copy may not fix the problem if a dependent DLL, registry entry, printer package, or Epson utility is missing.
Avoid these commands:
regsvr32 ep0nlmui.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that this Epson driver component should be registered manually. Printer-driver files are normally installed and configured by the Epson package and Windows print subsystem. Microsoft documents the command’s purpose in regsvr32.
If the error returns after reinstalling
Remove the old Epson entries and repeat the installation cleanly:
Recommended Free Tools
- Remove the Epson printer from Printers & scanners.
- Uninstall related Epson applications.
- Open Device Manager and remove the old Epson device.
- Restart the Print Spooler by opening
services.msc, right-clicking Print Spooler, and selecting Restart. - Restart Windows.
- Install the model-specific Epson package again.
If the error persists, create a temporary new Windows user profile and test the printer there. Also open Event Viewer, select Windows Logs > Application, and look for the executable that requested the DLL at the reported time.
FAQ
Is ep0nlmui.dll part of Windows?
No evidence establishes it as a Windows core component. Available identification associates it with Epson printer software.
Which Epson printer installed it?
The filename alone cannot identify the model. Check existing printer entries, old Epson software, the printer label, or the Epson installation records.
Is ep0nlmui.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public metadata has listed a 32-bit file, but that is historical third-party information rather than a universal requirement. Install the package Epson provides for your exact printer and Windows version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Not as the first response. There is no verified connection between this file and Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Reinstall the Epson driver first.
Will SFC repair it?
Usually not directly. SFC repairs protected Windows files. It may help with wider Windows corruption, but an Epson driver must normally be repaired through its own installer.
Should I use regsvr32?
Usually no. Do not register this file manually unless an official Epson installer specifically instructs you to do so.
What if I no longer use the Epson printer?
Uninstall the obsolete Epson software and remove its printer entry. That removes the stale startup reference instead of restoring a driver you no longer need.
