The ep0no001.dll error messages
Windows may display one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because ep0no001.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
- “There was a problem starting ep0no001.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading ep0no001.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because ep0no001.dll was not found.”
- “ep0no001.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

ep0no001.dll is associated with Epson printer-driver software, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Epson printer package that installed it. Do not download a loose copy of the DLL and place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
The 60-second answer
- Identify the Epson printer connected to this Windows installation.
- Remove the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Restart Windows.
- Re-add the printer or install the exact driver package for the Epson model.
- Check antivirus quarantine if the error began after a security scan.
- Run DISM and SFC only if other Windows components are also failing.
The filename does not identify the exact Epson model. Public metadata associates it with an Epson printer driver and identifies SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION in file information, but the name alone does not prove that every copy found on a computer is genuine.
What ep0no001.dll is
ep0no001.dll is a driver component used by Epson printer software. It is not normally a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, or core Windows library.
A copy may appear inside a Windows Driver Store location because Windows stores third-party hardware-driver packages there. That does not mean Microsoft owns the file or that Windows itself requires it independently of the Epson driver.

Public package records show that copies can vary by driver package and architecture. Some records describe a 32-bit copy, while other Epson packages contain an Amd64 copy. Do not treat one reported size, version, or architecture as universally correct.
The filename also cannot tell you:
- Which Epson printer installed the file
- Whether the installed package is current
- Whether the file is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether the file is authentic
- Whether the DLL itself or one of its dependencies is missing
Why Windows reports the file as missing
The most common causes are:
- An incomplete, damaged, or removed Epson driver package
- An old Epson driver left behind after replacing a printer
- A Windows upgrade that left an incompatible driver entry
- A mismatch between the printer package and Windows architecture
- Antivirus software quarantining a driver component
- A missing dependency required by the Epson DLL
- Broader Windows component corruption
- An imposter file outside a legitimate driver location
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that ep0no001.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load another file that the DLL needs.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer
This is the first fix to use when the printer still appears in Windows.
Remove the existing printer
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart the computer.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Choose Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Click Remove device.
- Restart Windows.
After restarting, return to the same printer settings page and select Add device. Follow the detected-device setup, then print a test page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf Windows does not find the printer, install the package for the exact Epson model from Epson’s official support site. Select the package for the correct Windows version and system architecture. Avoid choosing a driver merely because its filename resembles ep0no001.dll.
What success looks like
The startup message should stop appearing, the Epson printer should be listed under Printers & scanners, and a test page should print.
If the error returns immediately after reinstalling, continue with the next sections rather than copying a replacement DLL.
Fix 2: Update or reinstall the driver through Device Manager
Use this route when the printer remains listed but Windows reports a driver problem.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the Epson device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers an option to remove the driver package, select it only when you are deliberately removing the old Epson package.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager again and select Action > Scan for hardware changes, or reinstall the Epson package manually.
You can also right-click the Epson device, choose Update driver, then select Search automatically for drivers. Windows may find a suitable driver through Windows Update, but the manufacturer’s package is usually the better choice when Epson-specific scanning, maintenance, or printing features are required.
Manually comparing driver versions and identifying which of several installed packages is stale can take time. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair and driver installation require the full version.
If the Epson printer has been replaced and is no longer used, remove the obsolete device and its Epson software instead of trying to restore this DLL.

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed or quarantined a driver component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving the Epson driver or
ep0no001.dll. - Check the reported file path and publisher information.
Restore a quarantined file only when the path belongs to a credible Epson installation and the file has a valid Epson signature. If the file is in a temporary folder, a download folder, or an unrelated application directory, do not restore it blindly.
Instead, run a scan and reinstall the complete Epson package from the official Epson support source. Do not disable antivirus protection simply to run an unknown DLL.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not reliably replace a third-party Epson printer-driver file, so use them when other Windows files or system features are also malfunctioning.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after SFC finishes.
Run DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the printer again. If both commands complete without resolving the Epson error, return to the printer-driver reinstall steps. A clean Windows component check does not prove that the Epson package is intact.

Repeating system scans without knowing whether the Windows files are damaged can make this step unnecessarily difficult. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair requires the full version.
Fix 5: Use Windows Update
Windows Update may provide a compatible printer driver.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates, if available.
- Install the Epson-related driver.
- Restart Windows and test the printer.
If no Epson driver appears, use the exact model package from Epson. Windows Update cannot identify the correct package when the printer model is unknown or disconnected.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 ep0no001.dll is not a general DLL repair command. It applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver component is not automatically a self-registering COM library.
Running the command may produce an entry-point or architecture error, and it will not rebuild a missing Epson driver package. Use the Epson installer or Windows printer setup instead.

Do not copy ep0no001.dll from another computer into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application folder.

That approach can fail because:
- The replacement may be for the wrong architecture
- The version may not match the rest of the Epson package
- A required dependency may still be missing
- The downloaded file may contain malware
- Windows may continue using a broken driver registration
- The printer package may overwrite or reject the file later
The Windows Driver Store is not a reason to treat the file as a Microsoft system component. Repair the complete package through Windows or Epson.
Check the file path and properties
If the error continues, note the path shown in the message or locate the remaining file reference. Right-click any existing copy and select Properties.

A file outside a normal Epson or Windows driver location, without a credible Epson signature, deserves a malware scan rather than a replacement download.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore only if the problem clearly began after a driver installation, Windows upgrade, or other system change and normal Epson reinstall procedures fail.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it and select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Complete the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore is not the first-line fix for an isolated Epson DLL error. It also does not replace the need to install the correct driver if the printer package was removed.
FAQ
Is ep0no001.dll a legitimate Windows file?
It is associated with Epson printer-driver software, not a standard Windows runtime. A filename alone cannot authenticate every copy. Check its location, properties, signature, and the Epson installation that owns it.
Which Epson printer uses ep0no001.dll?
The filename does not identify a specific Epson model. Find the printer under Printers & scanners, inspect installed Epson software, or provide the file path and error details to support.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Usually not. The evidence points to an Epson driver component, so repair the printer package first. Those runtimes are not a general solution for this filename.
Can SFC restore ep0no001.dll?
Usually no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while ep0no001.dll belongs to Epson driver software. SFC and DISM are appropriate when broader Windows corruption is suspected.
Why did the error start after removing my Epson printer?
An old startup entry, driver package, or printer utility may remain after the device was removed. Remove the obsolete Epson software and printer entry, restart, and reinstall only the printer you still use.
What if reinstalling the Epson driver does not work?
Check the exact path, architecture, antivirus history, Windows build, and Epson model. The message may identify a missing dependency rather than the DLL itself. Avoid standalone DLL downloads and collect those details for Epson or Microsoft support.
