Epic Games defines AS-3 as a “generic network configuration error.” On Windows, first check that IPv6 is enabled for the network adapter you are using. If AS-3 persists, test for antivirus interference, update Windows and drivers, clear the Epic Games Launcher webcache, then work through Epic’s broader connection troubleshooting steps. The code does not identify one specific cause, so the sequence helps narrow down whether the problem is with the PC’s settings, the Launcher, or the wider connection.
1. Check IPv6 on your active network adapter
Epic’s AS-3-specific guidance says enabling IPv6 can help. Check the adapter currently in use, whether you connect through Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Windows 11
- Open Control Panel, then select Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings.
- Right-click the active network adapter and select Properties.
- Make sure Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, then select OK.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Network and Internet → Status → Change adapter options.
- Right-click the active network adapter and select Properties.
- Make sure Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, then select OK.

2. Test whether antivirus software is interfering
If you use third-party antivirus software, Epic suggests temporarily disabling it and trying the Launcher again as a diagnostic test. If AS-3 disappears, contact the antivirus provider for help adjusting the relevant settings. Restore your normal protection after the test; leaving antivirus disabled is not the fix.

3. Update Windows and clear the Launcher webcache
Epic’s general AS-error guidance recommends making sure Windows and your drivers are up to date. Then clear the Launcher’s cached web data:
- Exit the Epic Games Launcher using its system-tray icon.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open Epic Games Launcher → Saved, then delete the webcache folder.
- Restart the computer and open the Launcher again.
Follow Epic’s AS error code guidance for this cache reset. If the error remains, continue with the connection checks below.

4. Work through broader connection checks
Epic’s connection guide covers connection problems across the Launcher and other Epic products. These are general connectivity checks, not steps specific to AS-3. Try the relevant items in order, changing one thing at a time where possible so you can tell what helped:
- Restart your modem or router.
- Try a public DNS service.
- Check that your device clock is synchronized.
- Verify that required Epic domains are allowlisted.
- Reset the device cache.
- Check for Windows updates.
- Check whether a proxy server is configured and disable it if appropriate.
- Flush DNS.
- Reset the Windows Hosts file.
- Disable background applications that may affect the connection.
Epic’s guide also includes Offline Mode and Launcher-file adjustments. Use its instructions for those changes rather than guessing at file edits: How to troubleshoot connection issues. Epic advises contacting the hardware manufacturer if its connection steps do not resolve the problem.

How to interpret AS-3 if it continues
AS-3 is a generic network-configuration error, not a diagnosis of a failed router, adapter, or other specific component. Epic’s dedicated AS-3 page focuses on IPv6 and antivirus testing; the additional connection steps come from its broader troubleshooting guide. If the error appears suddenly or intermittently, a temporary network or service event is also worth distinguishing from a persistent local configuration problem. The code alone does not establish that an outage is occurring.
