Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen an Epic Games download is slow or appears stuck, work through Epic’s checks in this order: check the live service status, test a wired or alternate connection, remove any launcher speed limit, clear the launcher cache, reset Windows networking and DNS, try a public DNS only if necessary, and check domain filtering or proxy settings. This sequence separates an Epic service incident from a local connection, launcher, or Windows configuration problem.
First identify what “stuck” means
Epic downloads can show different symptoms that need different checks. A slow download still transfers data, but the rate is lower than expected. A download at 0% or with no throughput suggests that the launcher is not receiving data. A percentage that stops changing after data has already arrived may be installation processing rather than an active network transfer. Note the exact symptom before changing settings, because the remedy that helps a Wi‑Fi connection will not necessarily change an installation phase.

- Slow throughput: the download continues, but at an unexpectedly low rate.
- Zero throughput or 0%: no visible progress is being made.
- Frozen percentage after transfer: the launcher may be processing the downloaded files instead of transferring more data.
Do not infer a guaranteed repair time from any step. Epic publishes troubleshooting actions, not an average speed increase or a guaranteed time-to-fix; results vary with the connection, route, server load, storage and local configuration.
1. Check whether Epic is having an outage
Open the Epic Games Public Status page before changing your computer. At the latest check on October 14, 2026, the page showed All Systems Operational, with Epic Games Store and Download/Installation marked Operational. That is a time-specific observation, not a permanent guarantee: the page is live and can change.

If Download/Installation is degraded or unavailable, local resets are unlikely to restore normal throughput while the incident is active. Recheck the status page when the symptom starts suddenly, affects more than one connection, or returns after an otherwise successful fix.
2. Test the internet path before changing Windows
Use wired Ethernet
Epic recommends trying a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi‑Fi. Connect the computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable, then restart the download. A Cat6 Ethernet cable is a suitable physical accessory for this test. The purpose is diagnostic: if the download improves on Ethernet, the wireless path is implicated; if it does not, continue with the launcher and network checks below.
Try another internet connection
When possible, connect the computer to a different internet connection and retry. This can be a separate home connection or another available network that you are authorized to use. Compare the result with the original connection rather than changing several settings at once. Improvement on the alternate connection points toward the original network path, router filtering, DNS service or provider route rather than the game files themselves.

- Compatible with any WiFi 6E or WiFi 6 router or mesh system. Requires WiFi 6E router or mesh system to access 6GHz band (WiFi 6E)
Keep the launcher open long enough to observe whether data is actually arriving. A brief pause is not the same as a persistent 0% or zero-throughput state, so record the behavior before moving to the next step.
3. Remove Epic Games Launcher’s download limit
The launcher has a specific control that can deliberately cap the transfer rate. Remove it using this exact path:
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select the Settings icon near your profile.
- Choose Settings.
- Scroll to Download Settings.
- Clear (uncheck) Limit Download Speeds.
- Restart the launcher completely.
- Start the game download again and compare the rate.
Restarting matters because the launcher must reload its download configuration. If the box was already clear, this step has ruled out that particular cap; do not keep toggling it while looking for another cause.

4. Clear the Epic launcher cache
Epic says a full device cache can contribute to connection, cloud-sync or launch problems and provides platform-specific cache instructions, including a PC launcher-cache procedure. Clearing cache removes temporary data; it does not prove that cache caused every stuck download.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Close Epic Games Launcher, including any launcher process still running in the notification area.
- Follow Epic’s current platform-specific cache instructions for your device and launcher. Use the PC launcher-cache instructions when troubleshooting Windows.
- Reopen Epic Games Launcher and retry the same download.
Because cache locations and procedures differ by platform, use the instructions for the operating system you are actually running rather than deleting unrelated folders. If the download is unchanged after the cache is cleared, continue to networking steps instead of repeating the deletion.
5. Reset Windows networking and DNS
On Windows, Epic’s sequence combines a Winsock reset with an address release, renewal and DNS flush. Run the commands in an elevated Command Prompt, not in a normal application window.

- Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges.
- Run
netsh winsock reset. - Restart the computer when Windows requests it, or restart immediately after the command completes.
- Open an administrator Command Prompt again.
- Run
ipconfig /release. - Run
ipconfig /renew. - Run
ipconfig /flushdns. - Reopen Epic Games Launcher and start the download.
A DNS flush refreshes local name-resolution information. It does not increase the capacity of your internet plan or guarantee a faster Epic server route. The Winsock reset and address renewal address different parts of Windows networking, which is why Epic lists them together rather than treating a DNS flush as a universal fix.
6. Try a public DNS service only if earlier checks fail
Epic presents public DNS as an optional connectivity troubleshooting step after the basic checks. Its Windows examples are Google DNS addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Changing DNS can help when name resolution through the current provider is unreliable, but it is not a guaranteed download-speed boost.

- Open your Windows network-adapter or internet-connection settings.
- Choose the active adapter and open its IPv4 DNS configuration.
- Enter
8.8.8.8as the preferred DNS server and8.8.4.4as the alternate server. - Save the change, reconnect if Windows requests it, and retry the Epic download.
If the change does not help, restore the previous automatic DNS setting or the values supplied by your network administrator. Epic also documents IPv6 and console/mobile setup, so use the instructions that match your platform rather than applying Windows values to another device.

7. Check filtering, required domains and proxy settings
Allow Epic’s required domains
Epic’s troubleshooting checklist says to whitelist all required Epic domains. Security software, router filtering or another network-control feature can block the launcher from reaching download services. Review the allow-list in the security product or router that controls the connection and add the required Epic domains according to Epic’s current documentation.
Disable proxy servers for a test
A proxy can change how the launcher reaches Epic’s services. Temporarily disable proxy settings, retry the download, and then restore the proxy if it was required for your network. Change one setting at a time so that you can identify whether filtering or the proxy was responsible. If you are on a managed or school network, confirm the policy before disabling a required proxy.
Do not permanently weaken security controls merely to make a single test. The useful result is a controlled comparison: the same download, on the same computer, with one filtering or proxy change applied.
8. Interpret the result after each fix
| Check | What it tests | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Epic Games Public Status | Whether Epic Games Store Download/Installation is currently operational | If an incident is shown, recheck the live page later; if operational, continue with local tests |
| Wired Ethernet | Whether the Wi‑Fi path is contributing to slow or zero throughput | If Ethernet helps, investigate the wireless path; if not, continue with launcher and Windows checks |
| Another internet connection | Whether the original connection or route is involved | Compare the same download on the alternate connection |
| Limit Download Speeds | Whether the launcher is enforcing its own cap | Uncheck it under Settings > Download Settings, restart the launcher, and retry |
| Cache clear | Whether temporary launcher data is contributing to connection, sync or launch trouble | Reopen the launcher; if unchanged, move to networking |
| Winsock, address and DNS commands | Whether Windows networking or stale name resolution is involved | Restart, run the listed commands, then retry |
| Public DNS | Whether the current DNS service is causing a connectivity problem | Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 only after basic troubleshooting |
| Domain allow-list and proxy test | Whether filtering or an intermediary is blocking Epic access | Change one control, retry, and restore settings that are required by your network |
9. Know when a download is processing rather than transferring
A percentage that does not change is not sufficient evidence of a network failure. Check whether the launcher still reports download activity or has moved into installation processing after data arrived. If network throughput is zero but the launcher is processing the installation, repeating DNS or Wi‑Fi changes will not address that phase. If both the transfer and installation indicators remain inactive, return to the status, connection and launcher-setting checks instead of assuming that a particular percentage has a special meaning.
Use the same test conditions when comparing fixes: the same title, connection and launcher state. This avoids mistaking a temporary server or route change for a permanent solution.
10. A practical order for your next attempt
- Record whether the symptom is slow throughput, 0%/zero throughput, or post-download processing.
- Check the live Epic Games Public Status page.
- Test Ethernet or another authorized internet connection.
- Remove the launcher’s Limit Download Speeds setting and restart the launcher.
- Clear the platform-appropriate Epic launcher cache.
- Run the Windows Winsock reset, restart, then release, renew and flush DNS.
- Try the documented public DNS values only if the earlier checks did not help.
- Review required Epic-domain allow-listing and test with proxy settings disabled, changing one control at a time.
This order starts with reversible observations and launcher settings, then moves to Windows networking and DNS changes. It also keeps a service outage, a local connection problem and an installation-processing pause separate, so you can choose the next action based on evidence rather than repeatedly applying the same fix.
