No verified reporting established that Epic Games was hacked or that company data was stolen. Mogilevich, the group that claimed responsibility in February 2024, later said it had no Epic data and described the breach story as part of a scam. That later account was not independently verified, either.
Did Epic Games get hacked?
The available reporting does not establish that Epic Games was breached. Mogilevich announced Epic as a supposed victim in late February 2024, but did not provide proof of a successful hack. Epic said it was investigating and had “zero evidence that these claims are legitimate.”

The group’s claims about the supposed haul were inconsistent in coverage: Video Games Chronicle reported Mogilevich’s claim of 189GB, while GamesBeat described it as 200GB. Those figures were allegations, not independently verified measurements of stolen data. BleepingComputer reported that the group named a $15,000 asking price for the alleged data; that reported demand does not show the data existed.
What did Epic say about the claim?
On February 28, 2024, Epic told BleepingComputer: “We are investigating but there is currently zero evidence that these claims are legitimate.” Epic also said, “Mogilievich has not contacted Epic or provided any proof of the veracity of these allegations.” The quoted spelling “Mogilievich” is Epic’s wording in that statement; the group is generally identified as Mogilevich.

Epic’s statement described what the company knew at that point: it was investigating, had no evidence supporting the claim, and had not received direct contact or proof from the group. GamesBeat later reported that Epic first learned of the alleged ransom amount through a third-party tweet.
What did Mogilevich later admit?
On March 3–4, 2024, the group said it had no Epic data and characterized the claim as a scam. Cyber Daily quoted a spokesperson identified as Pongo saying, “In reality, we are not a ransomware-as-a-service, but professional fraudsters.” Cyber Daily published the attributed statement on March 3.

GamesBeat quoted Pongo the next day: “This was done to illustrate the process of our scam. We don’t think of ourselves as hackers but rather as criminal geniuses, if you can call us that.” In the group’s account, it used prominent company names to attract would-be criminals, then tried to sell them fake ransomware infrastructure. VGC and GamesBeat both cautioned that the confession could itself be untrue or self-serving. It is an attributed explanation, not a forensic finding.

- February 28, 2024: Epic told BleepingComputer it was investigating, had zero evidence supporting the claim, and had received neither direct contact nor proof from Mogilevich.
- March 3, 2024: Cyber Daily published Pongo’s statement describing the group as fraudsters.
- March 4, 2024: GamesBeat and VGC reported Mogilevich’s claim that the alleged Epic breach was a hoax or scam, while noting uncertainty about the confession.
