Yes—when you successfully claim an Epic Games Store promotional game before its stated deadline, Epic says it remains in your account library after the public giveaway ends. That access is a digital license, not ownership of the software. Epic’s End User License Agreement allows rare situations in which a title can become unavailable for further download or access, so “keeps it” should not be read as an unconditional lifetime guarantee.
Whether you can see or run the game still depends on the Epic account used for the claim, your country, the title’s supported platform, and its own operating-system and hardware requirements. The checks below explain each issue without assuming that every free title works on every device.

What happens when you claim a free Epic game?
A giveaway is a time-limited promotion. The offer page shows the period during which the game can be claimed; you must complete the claim during that window. Missing the end time does not create an entitlement to receive the title free later. Epic’s support guidance says to watch for a future promotion instead.
For a successful claim, Epic’s Store FAQ states: “When you claim a free game, it remains in your library to play – even after the game is no longer available to new customers for free.” In practical terms, the public price can return while the title stays associated with the account that claimed it.

The distinction between access and ownership matters. Epic’s End User License Agreement describes the software as licensed, not sold. The license is governed by the agreement and does not transfer ownership of the game code, artwork, or other software assets to you. The same agreement notes rare cases in which software may be removed from the Store and become unavailable for further download or access. Therefore, the accurate promise is continued library access under the license, not an absolute guarantee that a download will remain possible forever.
Epic’s Epic Games Store FAQ covers the library treatment and account questions. Read the individual game page and the current license terms for details that are specific to that title.
How to claim a giveaway before it expires
Use this sequence for each promotion. The exact offer dates and eligibility are displayed on Epic’s live Store page, so rely on that page rather than a calendar or an old article.
- Sign in to the Epic account you intend to keep using. Avoid switching between an email login, a social login, and a console-linked account until you have confirmed they are the same Epic account.
- Open the game’s promotional product page. Confirm that the page identifies the title you want and shows a current free-offer period.
- Complete the on-page claim flow before the displayed end time. A page that has already returned to a price is no longer offering that promotional entitlement.
- Check the account library after the transaction finishes. The title should be listed under the same account that completed the claim. Keep the confirmation information if you later need to distinguish accounts.
- Review platform and requirements before installing. A completed claim does not change the game’s supported operating systems or hardware needs.
Epic’s support answer to a missed offer is straightforward: there is no retroactive free claim, but the game may be offered again in a later promotion. See Can I still get a game free after missing its offer? for that policy.
Where is the Epic Games Store available?
Epic lists the Store as available worldwide on PC, Mac, and Android. It lists iPhone and iPad availability in the European Union. Those statements describe where the Store service can be accessed; they do not mean that every game in the catalog supports every one of those devices.

For an individual title, Epic directs users to the product page’s Platform field and its system-requirements section. A game can be present in the Store while being limited to Windows PC, requiring a particular macOS release, or omitting mobile support entirely. Treat the Store’s overall platform coverage and a game’s own compatibility as two separate questions.
The current platform guidance is in What platforms is the Epic Games Store available on? Epic’s title-level instructions appear in I purchased a game from the Epic Games Store. What platform can I play it on?
System requirements: what you must check for each game
There is no single minimum PC specification for all Epic giveaways. Requirements vary by game and can differ substantially between a small independent title and a modern, graphics-intensive release. Epic’s official FAQ material does not establish a universal processor, memory, graphics-card, storage, or operating-system baseline.
Before downloading, open the game’s current product page and compare your device with every listed requirement:
- Platform: Confirm whether the listing is for Windows, macOS, Android, or another supported platform. A claim in your library does not add support for a platform absent from the listing.
- Operating system: Check the stated Windows or macOS version, and pay attention to 64-bit requirements or other qualifiers when shown.
- Processor and memory: Compare both minimum and recommended values if the page supplies them. Minimum normally describes the threshold for starting the game; recommended is a better target for the intended experience.
- Graphics hardware and API: Verify the listed GPU class, video memory, and graphics API where specified. Integrated graphics may not meet a discrete-GPU requirement.
- Storage: Leave room for the installation and updates, not only the initial download size.
- Additional conditions: Note any online connection, launcher, account, or peripheral requirement shown on the title page.
Epic’s support pages specifically direct players to the product page for these details. Requirements can be revised by a developer after a giveaway begins, so use the live listing when you install rather than relying on a copied specification.

Why a free game may be unavailable in your country
Your Epic account country can affect which games and offers are visible. Epic says the country setting should match the country where you currently reside. Changing it is not a general method for bypassing an offer’s eligibility rules, and the available catalog can still be constrained by the developer or by marketplace obligations.
Epic identifies several reasons a page may be unavailable:
- Developer-managed regional restriction: The publisher or developer may exclude particular countries or territories.
- Account already owns related content: A product can be hidden or unavailable when the account already owns content that includes it, such as a bundle or edition relationship.
- European Union seller-information requirement: Epic describes cases where a developer has not completed a required self-identification process. In that situation, Epic says users retain access to products they had already purchased or claimed for free, even though a new product page may not be available.
These conditions are separate from the giveaway deadline. A title can be within its promotional period and still be blocked for an account in a restricted region. Epic’s explanations are in Will changing the country on my Epic Games account affect a game I claim? and Why is a game unavailable or not visible?
What to do when a claimed game is missing
Work through these checks in order. Each one addresses a different failure mode, so changing country settings or reinstalling the launcher should not be your first response.
1. Confirm the Epic account
Sign out and verify the email address or login method on the account that made the claim. Epic warns that signing in to Google with a Gmail address can lead to a distinct Epic account from signing in directly with Epic credentials, even when the visible email address appears similar. Console-linked accounts can also be separate from another Epic account you use on the web.

- Over 6,100 stores located throughout the United States.

2. Check the correct platform and launcher context
Make sure you are looking for the title on the platform for which it was offered. A game claimed through one account or platform listing will not automatically appear in an unrelated account. If the product page identifies a different operating system, the title may be unavailable to install on your device even though the license is present.
3. Remove library filters and inspect hidden games
In the Epic Games Launcher, clear search and genre filters, then check whether the library’s hidden-games setting is concealing the title. A filter can make a valid license look absent without any account or regional problem.
4. Check the license status and transaction history
Look for signs that the transaction was completed rather than abandoned at checkout. Epic’s launcher support checklist also calls out refunded games; a refund can remove the title from the available library even if you remember initiating a claim.
5. Compare the game with your operating system
Use the product page’s Platform field and requirements. An incompatible operating system can prevent installation or make the launcher omit an install option. This is a compatibility issue, not proof that the claim failed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches6. Recheck regional visibility
If the page itself is unavailable, compare your account country with your current residence and review the developer and EU marketplace explanations above. Do not assume that a web page seen by someone in another country should be visible to your account.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to evaluate an offer quickly
When a promotion appears, these four questions provide a reliable decision framework:
| Question | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Is it still claimable? | The live offer’s displayed start and end period | A missed deadline does not create a free entitlement. |
| Is my account eligible? | Account country, developer restrictions, and any marketplace notice | Regional rules can hide or block a title even during an active promotion. |
| Where can I play it? | The product page’s Platform field | Store-wide PC, Mac, Android, or EU iOS availability does not apply automatically to every game. |
| Will my device run it? | Operating-system, processor, memory, graphics, storage, and other listed requirements | A valid license does not change hardware or software compatibility. |
Save the title to the account only after checking all four. The claim decision and the installation decision are related, but they are not the same transaction: one establishes the account license while the other depends on platform and system support.

“Free” means the software is mine permanently
No. The promotional price can be zero while the legal relationship remains a license. Epic’s EULA governs that license and includes the rare unavailability caveat.
If the Store works on my phone, every giveaway will work there
No. Epic’s Store-level mobile coverage does not guarantee mobile builds for individual games. Check the title’s own platform listing.
A game disappearing from search means my claim was deleted
Not necessarily. Search visibility can be affected by account selection, filters, hidden-library settings, platform compatibility, regional restrictions, ownership relationships, or a refund. Run the account and library checks before drawing that conclusion.
Changing my country will unlock any blocked giveaway
No. Country settings are expected to reflect where you reside, and developer restrictions or marketplace requirements can still apply. A country change can also affect other Store availability decisions.

Claim the game during the exact promotional window, using the Epic account you plan to keep. After a successful claim, Epic says the title stays in that account’s library when the offer ends, but the EULA defines that access as a license and allows rare loss of download or access. Before installing, verify the game’s own platform and requirements; if it is missing, check account identity, filters, hidden items, refunds, operating-system compatibility, and regional eligibility in that order.
