The Epic Games Store free game reported on December 24, 2025 was The Callisto Protocol, available to claim until the next giveaway arrived on December 25, according to contemporaneous reporting. That offer has expired. Because the original headline omits the year, it can also point readers to a different holiday giveaway: Control was reported as Epic’s December 25, 2024 free game.
Which Epic free game was available until December 25?
Neowin reported on December 24, 2025 that The Callisto Protocol was the latest Epic Games Store mystery giveaway and could be claimed before the next free game appeared on December 25. The report describes Krafton as the game’s AAA publisher. Epic’s official 2025 Holiday Sale guide confirms the sale dates and its first free title, but does not list this later mystery-game promotion; the game identification and cutoff should therefore be understood as contemporaneous reporting, not as a detail independently confirmed on that official guide. Why the year matters
“Until December 25” is ambiguous without a year. A separate report identified Control as Epic’s free game for December 25, 2024. It described a 24-hour offer and gave a local end time of December 26 at 5 p.m. CET, illustrating that a giveaway announced for December 25 may end on December 26 in some time zones. That was a different promotion from the 2025 The Callisto Protocol giveaway. Notebookcheck’s December 25, 2024 report.

How the 2025 giveaway fit into Epic’s Holiday Sale
Epic’s official guide says its 2025 Holiday Sale ran from December 11, 2025 at 11 a.m. ET through January 8, 2026 at 11 a.m. ET. It lists Hogwarts Legacy as free through December 18 at 11 a.m. ET and identifies it as the first game in the sale’s free-game section. Those are the overall sale dates and the first giveaway’s window; they do not mean every holiday free game remained claimable for the whole sale. Epic’s 2025 Holiday Sale guide.
Epic’s newsroom separately confirmed the Hogwarts Legacy deadline. Its announcement also mentioned a Fortnite cosmetic reward tied to at least two hours of playtime; that reward was separate from claiming a free game. Epic’s Holiday Sale announcement.
