Epic’s “rent collector” announcement was made on July 25, 2024—not today. At the time, Epic said it would bring Fortnite back to iOS in the European Union through alternative marketplaces and end partnerships with mobile stores it believed did not compete robustly or treat developers fairly. The situation has since changed: Epic said on May 19, 2026, that Fortnite was back on the App Store worldwide. For EU players, Epic also lists the Epic Games Store and AltStore PAL as download routes.
What Epic meant by “rent collector”
In its July 25, 2024 announcement, Epic said it would end partnerships with mobile stores that “serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly.” That phrase was Epic’s criticism of those stores, not an independently established description. Epic’s announcement framed the decision as part of a strategy to distribute its mobile games through other stores, including AltStore, while restoring Fortnite to iOS in the EU. Where to get Fortnite on iPhone or iPad now
Epic’s current support guidance, accessed October 8, 2026, distinguishes worldwide App Store availability from alternative marketplace options for EU users. It also lists cloud gaming as an option. Availability and setup can vary by location and service.
| Route | Where Epic lists it | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store | Worldwide | Install Fortnite from the App Store on iPhone or iPad. |
| Epic Games Store | European Union | Install through Epic’s iOS marketplace. |
| AltStore PAL | European Union | Install through the alternative marketplace. |
| Cloud gaming | Availability depends on the service and region | Stream Fortnite through a supported cloud-gaming service rather than installing it from an iOS app marketplace. Epic names Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna. |

Use official installation routes
Epic’s support page lists the official marketplace and cloud-play options above. Epic cautions that it does not officially support third-party software for installation, so unofficial installers should not be treated as an endorsed way to get Fortnite.
